This is a very special custom rifle from my personal collection that will make someone very happy. It was a labor of love that I spent a lot of time on to perfect. My goal with this build was to make the rifle reliable, bulletproof, and as accurate as I possibly could with both pellets and heavier high BC slugs for field hunting, NRL22 / PRS, and benchrest. The results on paper speak for itself. Example 13 shot group at 50m through a scope cam:
Every part that I machined and fabricated from scratch use the highest quality materials that I could source, all of which contribute to the performance of this rifle. The build history was captured in several different posts on AGN and Instagram, but I'll try and recap some of the functional upgrades that I made for it.
FX Maverick .30cal
- Kraford & Lypt KL-MAV chassis - Comes with both the Compact Arca Swiss rail and a longer modified Sniper Arca Swiss rail. I also have multiple long and short K&L Picatinny T-slot rail inserts for them to run Picatinny/Weaver bipods and hardware.
- KLS-2 stock with titanium posts - Much lighter with the 6AL-4V titanium rods. This is the best stock IME for the Maverick as it allows for the shouldering point to raise up higher and it's solid. I modified / rounded the tips of two high grade cap screws for clamping the Y adjustment axis without marring up the rods like the factory set screws tend to do

- Carbon Fiber + Titanium Barrel Shrouds & Titanium Thread Protectors - Made from very high-quality (very pricey) high modulus carbon fiber from Rockwest Composites and certified 6AL-4V titanium. I made one for 500mm and the other for 600mm barrels with a revolver style titanium end cap for each of them. The end caps were designed to work with the barrel system, but they can be run on other riles using a polymer stopper that I made and they are both VERY effective at dampening barrel harmonics!
- Custom Barrel Tensioning System - Titanium locking ring integrated with the factory barrel supports. The titanium ring seats into the forward barrel support and the titanium end caps on the shroud slides over it to seat the shroud and provide the tensioning point. Works amazingly well. You can pick up the rifle by the shroud and use it as a baseball bat and not damage the barrel (not that I recommend this, but it's that SOLID!
Tuning - FX Maverick Locking Shroud Mod (For Barrel Rigidity & Harmonics)
Figured that this would be worth it's own thread. I've had some ideas for improving the barrel support in the FX Maverick since they were released. I haven't had the time or drive to make the more complicated idea, but I went ahead and took a risk today by doing a permanent modification to my...

- Titanium shorter action lever system - I milled the lever from 1.25" 6AL-4V titanium rod stock and the handle with 3/8" 6AL-4V rod stock from the same material source. It took me two tries to machine the lever perfectly (screwed up the first one one of the last machining operations), but it was well worth it! Nailed the tolerances and the cocking action feels so perfect with a high-end firearm like smoothness.
Also made a precision spring that seats against the cocking rod guide on the opposite side of the lever. Combined with the leverage "over travel" snaps the lever down snugly for field use. It took a lot of trial with different sized springs to get it JUST right, but I was able to find the perfect balance of resistance for keeping the lever closed snugly and being able to cycle ammo for rapid fire.
Tuning - FX Maverick Titanium Lever & New Tuning Tricks
Preface - I assume zero responsibility for any damage of any kind that that is incurred if you use the information in this post and break / hurt / kill something. If you don't know what you're doing, then don't void your warranty! Titanium lever - this was probably the hardest (and costly)...

- Pellet & Slug Probes - I have the factory FX pellet probe in .30, a titanium pellet probe and slug probe in .30, and titanium slug probe in .22.
- Modified Magpul MIAD AR Grip - I milled and polished this grip to fit the rile. It feels AWESOME, and has interchangeable fore grip inserts that can change it from having the finger rests or a straight profile. Definitely a 1 of 1 grip for this rifle.
- Titanium cocking rod guide (threaded) with Delrin 150 (slippery grade, press fit inserts - there's (4) total components that I made from scratch for this piece. I broke the factory aluminum rod guide shooting from a bench, so I decided to make an indestructible replacement along with upgrading the cocking rod to eliminate slop (see below)
The first one I made was stainless. Eventually got the itch to make another one in titanium.
Tuning - Broke my FX Maverick, Repaired it with Improvements!
Preface - it's insane how a relatively minor modification can completely change the feel of a rifle! .. was bummed out last Thursday at the range when I realized that something was VERY wrong with my FX Maverick. Spent the first part of my session testing out the slow twist poly LW in my new...

- 5/32" Music wire cocking rod - I bent the factory rod like pretty much everyone else with a Maverick / Wildcat. Went with a 5/32" music wire (C61 hardness). It's just a tiny bit larger in O.D. than the 4mm factory rod, which had way too much slop. This music wire rod was a nightmare to thread, however it has been flawless and as straight as an arrow for the duration that I have ran it. It also greatly improved the sloppy cocking action in conjunction with the titanium cocking system that I custom fabricated for this rifle.
- Modified cocking rod connector - Drilled, milled, and threaded a beefy M4 cap screw to prevent the rod / probe assembly from dislodging the (2) M3 factory set screws at high power fixing a total factory design flaw! This allows the rod connector to clamp against the rod from both sides.
- Modified AMP regulators - Using upgraded spring washers and the awesome brass + polmyer tipped adjustment screws. Shots are extremely consistent at all power levels.
- Magpul Paraclip - works great as an attachment point for a single point sling (I have more Magpul hardware to run a second one forward for dual point slings)
- Kraford & Lypt Modified Gigarail & Full Gigarail - Duracoated Pictanny.
- Kraford & Lypt Dovetail Rails - One in raw aluminum and another in black anodized. Looks like this:
- Modified cheek rest - Made it low profile as it should have been for optimal flexibility for the scope height.
- PEEK valve - More efficient with extra travel and heavier valve return spring
- Hammer weights - I have a 26gr FX Tungsten and a variety of 485 marine brass, and the factory steel.
- Hammer Springs - Standard and custom heavy spring
- Stainless hardware - 316L for the most part, all from McMaster-Carr (not the cheap overseas stainless)
- Orion Iguana Hunter deep cavity FX magazine covers - Orion designed these durable factory replacement magazine covers for me so I could shoot the old style 62 grain Varmint Knockers slugs, and they work perfectly!
- Custom made Delrin 150 bottle gauge shroud - Made a black shroud for the FX branded Wika gauge.
- Blued (male) stainless steel fill port - Looks cool
- Spare Parts - I have a bunch of spare FX factory parts for this rifle. All of the o-rings are brand spankin' new and very high quality.
- Magazines - I have (5) of the 13-shot factory .30 mags with several low profile lids from Orion, (1) grey Orion .22 mag (18-shot), (1) FX .22 mag (18-shot), and (1) high capacity .22 mag from Midwest Airguns and (1) .30 high cap mag from Midwest Airguns.
- Barrel / Rail Support Stainless Helical Thread Overhaul (18-8 stainless M3 steel Helicoil thread inserts) - The factory aluminum thread can strip out, so these completely mitigate that problem and allow for the rails to be properly torqued.
Tuning - FX Maverick Stainless Helical Thread Overhaul
Preface: if you're planning to do this modification, you'll probably want read the install details below! This was fun and expensive. I had stripped out both of the little M3x0.5 threads in my forward barrel support (the parts where the scope rail threads into). The first thread partially...

- FX Carbon Fiber Air Cylinders - I have 350cc, 480cc, 580cc. All of which have been wrapped out of the box with thick rubberized insulation.
Barrels
I have several different barrels / liners and shrouds for this rifle that shoot with sub-MOA precision: I have vetted and tuned all of them.
Match Grade 600mm TJ's .30cal (1:26) - Hammer forged CrMoly. I bought and machined several TJ blanks for this Maverick before I finally got one with a perfect bore to work with. Used a custom live piloted chamber reamer that I had Dave Kiff from Pacific Tool & Gauge make for me to machine the lead in specifically for the TJ's with a 2 degree lead and optimize it for heavy slugs and pellets. I was specifically setting it up for the original style 62 grain Varmint Knockers (sub-MOA with both the swaged slug in the hard 8.5 BHN alloy and regular soft Corbin lead), but it does well with a variety of 55-70 grain slugs. I have a bunch of 62 grain ammo that I can include with this barrel.
Meticulously lapped the bore with a micro-taper and it's a frigging laser beam. Also shoots 50.15 grain JSBs with supreme precision and it doesn't lead up nearly as fast as other barrels. I always use a good rod to clean it with a Kroil soaked cotton patch, followed by a Ballistol patch and a dry patch. The carbon fiber / titanium shroud that I made for it is the icing on the cake.
Threaded 1/2-20 UNF on the muzle end with a custom high flow 485 marine brass inlet on the breech end.
330mm TJ's .30cal (1:26 twist) - I machined this barrel from a blank to build an ultra compact configuration. Originally ran it with a DonnyFL Ronin + extension using the factory chassis and an FX cylinder from a Dreamline, but I have since dedicated DonnyFL Koi to it as part of the complete barrel system. Shoots very well with pellets and slugs.
Threaded 1/2-20 UNF on the muzzle end with a Ernet Rowe high flow brass inlet on the breech end.
- 500mm FX Superior Liner .30cal (1:37" twist) - This is a real gem of a liner. I have a high quality precision carbon fiber sleeve bonded to it with 638 Loctite. I have only shot pellets with this barrel so I don't mess up the bore with unecessary wear and tear from leading. It's been very carefully polished and I've only used a good cleaning rod with appropriate sized patches to clean it when it needs it (it shoots lights out for a long time without needing patches run through it).
500mm Shrouds - I have a carbon fiber + titanium tensioned shroud and the original FX factory aluminum 500mm shroud. I also have a custom made black Delrin shroud extension with a 7075 aluminum threaded insert (1/2-20 UNF) that I made for the factory shroud to extend it out just far enough to run a 480cc bottle. This is what it looks like in action during an NRL22 match:
- 700mm FX Superior Heavy Slug Liner (1:18" twist) - Shoots superb with the newer style 62 grain Varmint Knockers in standard soft lead.
- 700mm FX Slow Twist Pellet Liner (1:44" twist) - This liner is also very special. It was in an MK2 Impact that I bought when they came out.
- 700mm FX Slug Liner (22cal, 1:16" twist) - Excellent with pretty much every .217" slug that I've tried.
- 600mm FX Slug Liner (22cal, 1:16" twist) - ^^^^^^^
- 600mm TJ's .22 (.218/.222 1:14" twist) - Shoots rimfire size projectiles. 1/2-20 UNF threaded muzzle and the FX thread with a factor brass inlet on the breech. This one may be spoken for already, but feel free to inquire about it.
Terms:
This is a tough one to price out. I'm going to include the KLS-2 stock and titanium lever, rod guide, rod and KL-MAV chassis and a couple of magazines as part of the basic configuration for 1400 and split the shipping. Shoot me a message with the barrel(s) that you're interested in or give me your number and I can reach out to you to discuss. Can include all the above if the price is right (make me an offer).
Serious inquiries only please. Not interested in trades.
