Last night I had a heck of a time removing the cylinder from my Steyr LP50. Is there a specific wrench thats designed to work on these cylinders w/o damaging them? BTW this the only gun I own where I need to remove the cylinder to fill it.

Depending on how accessible it is, a small strap-wrench might be the tool for that.

Spanner wrenches only work upon round objects that heve the correct indentation milled or molded into them for the wrench to take hold.

If the only way to fill the gun is to remove the cylinder.
How does the the manufacturer recommend the user to remove the cylinder ?

Wow. What an excellent design!
I'd clamp the tube in a vise between a couple of pieces of wood while leaving enough room to rotate the rest of the gun a little. Turn the gun, release, reclamp, then repeat until it's loose enough to take off by hand. Then I'd sort out a specialty tool that would make the vise unnecessary. Perhaps padded-jaw pliars or vise-grips.

Steyr appears to have machined a hole in the side of their air cylinder for removal and installation, specific to a spanner wrench of the appropriate size.

You got me excited there! I assumed I had somehow missed ever noticing that! Unfortunately, my gun lacks that feature. Perhaps they added it later. If the is not a specific wrench (I will check directly with Steyr) I will pick up a set of channel pliers that have nylon jaw protectors.

Generally any air cylinder only requires finger tightening. We are not using gaskets in the pcp world so why stuff is cranked on pcp guns bewilders me. I would pull the barrel then just twist it off now that you can get your hand around it. Then fill it and just finger tighten moving forward.

I used to just gently snug it up, but at times it has worked its way loose, hence the “more than just snug” tightening. I found some soft jaw plug pliers on Amazon that will do the trick for the rare instance I can’t get the cylinder off easily. Here’s the link in case anyone else has this issue in the future.
