Daisy Daisy 499b

i have been wondering
the 499 is what 145.00-160.00 + shipping and tax it is a BB rifle very low on power odd to load has a set purpose of shooting at short distance and i see they can be made to shot much fast with a new spring and could use a better diopter in my view
now the 753s is 300.00 bigger rifle SSP better power could be shot at 15ft and beyond better diopter can be shot inside is pellet only and has a LW barrel

what is the better deal

when i sold power equipment Stihl i would always tell people double your budget and the why was never go home and say should i bought the other one think of the tool as something that has a 10 year life spanned, so how much extra to move up to something better not much

can Airguns be thought of the same way, my answer is yes but at the same time for many of us, we will just buy both

again, i have just been wondering

My answer is that I just set up a five meter range in my workshop and discovered the 499 is made for that distance. Plus I don’t have one and just got into collecting BB guns from Daisy. And to top it off the 753 is probably on my list because not only have I discovered BB guns. I am really getting into shooting the diopter sight. So bang . 160 bucks later and I can reuse the ammunition.

I was really considering getting a 499b, but the more I thought about it, the more I wondered if I would actually shoot a 220 fps, muzzleloading BB gun enough to make it worthwhile. I’ve already got an R7 and that’s going to outshoot a 499b all day. Not to put the 499b down, but it seems to me that the most effective way of making a BB gun more accurate is to make it a pellet gun.

No,it is not,why is the distance you shoot ,plus good BBs are a lot cheaper than good pellets.
It is about shooting something you enjoy. Sure a R-7 is great and is a joy to shoot.
Perspective,I am one of those guys who likes to shoot,I do not care what it is,I do not care if it makes noise,I only care that something is coming out of the muzzle strong enough to hit what I'm(y) aiming at

It’s the distance . Round balls and smooth bore are not going to be any different past a short distance. The aero dynamics of a ball are not going to be stable. But at 15 feet there is not really enough space for the ball to vary its path. 230fps is fine for a ball and it has very little recoil. AND it does not punch holes through the back of the trap. All are good at 15 feet. But the Red Ryder is about a two inch group and my 1958 Daisy 1000 is a four inch shotgun pattern. Not that much fun . But the 499 can hold one inch off hand. And now im practicing shooting a springer off a bucket and sticks like Field Target and its warm indoors and getting better all the time. I have a dozen pellet guns that shoot better. But the scope only goes to 8 meters and most will punch through my trap and garage door. So for a couple hundred bucks this is fun.

I just noticed this guy. I know this is luck. But I was aiming there. And it had a couple others that weren’t that far off. But Dang !!! With. BB gun?

That is a keeper target right there, shots like that make you feel so good that you just want to keep shooting. I would cut that out and put it on the wall. I do that when I shoot a 10.9 because I don't do it very often offhand.

It just kills me that that shot is so perfect. All the money on scopes and PCP rifles and then this puts shooting into perspective. Shut up and hit the bullseye.

I added a foam block 1 3/4 thick to the back of the stock to help me gauge the attachment of the adjustable one I have ordered. This is awesome. 1-2 inch makes the length of pull really nice. My arms are not cramped up. And with my face on the cheek piece the sight through the eye piece makes the globe the same size so all I can see is the target and the globe ring. .

These are five shot groups off the sticks. 30 shots fired at 8:30 in the morning before I have had breakfast. I think this is OK winter training.
The 499 keeps good company anyhow.

Thankyou for opening up so many eyes to indoor low power fun ! My low power guns are in the 420 FPS range (IZH 46 pistol ) and now you have me thinking one of these will be fun and quiet as my wife sleeps late .

This is what sent me down this rabbit hole. I live in Iowa. You can’t enjoy outdoor shooting when it 4 degrees outside or 12 with 30 mph wind. I race rc cars all winter. So I am trying to start a field target club. It quickly became apparent this is a thing for the good weather. So I need to get people interested in target shooting indoors. Then they will want to shoot outdoors. It’s tough here. Spring hits and it summer then it’s cold again.

This is why I also have a 499 because I love the idea as something as trivial as a bb gun can perform at an elite level. It took daisy some additional r&d but I love how they made something that I'm not sure can really be improved upon.

In my opinion, shooting is shooting regardless of the caliber, projectile, or distance. The same fundamentals have to be applied. I'm glad bb guns have some love.

My advice is get the old ones before the price goes stupid. You can find perfect guns and all the parts to make them shoot for 100 bucks . Don’t tell anyone.
There was a guy selling a lot of 8 of them new on ebay for $90 each a few months ago. Obviously, a fantastic price, but it was what caused me to really think about whether I really wanted a dedicated 5m single shot BB gun or not. If they could somehow make a repeating BB gun shoot like that I'd be all over it.

I was thinking about that and most of my rifles are single shot. This is the easiest one to load. And my TX200 the worst because the scope is covering the loading bay.
Good point. There's a big difference between repeating BB guns and repeating pellet guns however. BB's are just exceptionally well suited for repeating actions. You can pour them in by the hundred, stack them on top of each other with no concerns about orientation and you don't have to worry about them being damaged. Pellets on the other hand are delicate and must be carefully loaded nose first and a single shot pellet gun is generally faster to load and shoot than a magazine fed gun, at least when it comes to plinking or target shooting.

I think there have been races between ten shots fired one at a time and a guy loading a magazine then rapid firing ten shots. Cannot remember the outcome.

just adding the but pad mad a big difference. I am going to get different glasses that don’t have a frame . And the new diopter will should make aiming better. I also ordered a new trigger group. There is an excellent article about making the trigger better.

The 499 is fun. Rolling that bb down the barrel waiting to hear the click is therapeutic. I have a FWB 601, Pardini GPR1 Top, a Walther LP500 and an electronic target. While they are great and far more accurate, the 499 has all of them beat on the fun factor. I did order an extra trigger for my 499 ($12) and plan to attempt a trigger job. I also plan to add lead weight to the butt stock and forearm to get the weight up closer to 6 pounds. I want to see how the adjustable butt pad works out for the OP as I was thinking the same thing. With those three cheap improvements I think I can cut my group sizes in half.
