Daisy Daisy 717 Reseal

I am getting ready to open up a Daisy 717. It is averaging 380 FPS with 7.0 pellets. The foam oiler has come apart, which is the main reason it is coming apart.

It seems to be shooting up to spec., any reason to replace the orings? I have also heard not to touch the valve if it's working, is that good advice? I was thinking of redressing the seat but it seems like it does not need that. Last question, do I need to soak the foam wiper in oil before I install, what oil if so? I use Macs secret sauce to lube all my SSP, MSP guns.

I rebuilt several of that type , 747 and 777 for my son, grandson, and myself several years ago. I would use a silicone oil on that. WHen I did mine, I found some seal kits on ebay that used a set of I think 5 split teflon washers to use in place of the foam. they fit the groove loosley and hold a fair amount of oil in the spaces between the washers. .

As old as it is I would replace all the O rings while working on it.

@jccams , as easy as it is to change the O-rings on the 717 you might as well do it while it is open. Conversely, seeing as everything is working so well and 380FPS is pretty good - why fix what ain't broke. It is no big deal to open it up down the line.

I'm pretty sure the best advice I have come across is "if the valve is working leave it alone."

I've been using Pell Oil on my 7X7's as one other AGN'r mentioned to me one time. Seems to work fine. @marflow 777 mentioned some other type lube in a recent post of his that he seemed really happy with.

I need to replace the wiper as it's disintegrating and I am afraid it will end up in the valve.

so, i have been under the thinking that if you change the large Orings leave the valve alone
and if you open the pistol up change the 2 115 Orings
now if it really old the valve could come apart that has a 005 Oring on the stem and a 012 on the cap
now in the early days they used felt for the wiper and seeing that i had a piece of Clothes Dryer felt i started making my own
now here is the rub
the valve has the clip on it and it is a pain to get off but if you take and replace the stem Oring you have to
what to do
if the gun don't take 60 seconds to take apart i would do just the large Orings and test
and check the bolt Oring also and white grease the bolt
i have been using Crosman Pellgun oil but the last problem child i used ULTIMOX 226
also some might have seen i went to replacing the clips with one of these they came in 3.05mm ID
of course these are just ideas

I bought one in a pawn shop a couple of months ago for $30. They didn't think it held air, and I didn't know that you had to cock it before it would hold air.
It worked! So, ended up with a bargain. The foam washer on mine had disintegrated too. I had some self adhesive felt pads, the kind you use on furniture legs, so I shaved off the adhesive part, cut it to width and length, wrapped it around the wiper channel, and superglued the ends. I used Pellgun oil and so far seems to be working fine. I did end up replacing all seals just because I had an assortment box of 9-rings with the proper sizes. I think the foam wipers are a bad idea. Most foams don't like solvents or oils.

I rebuilt mine this week-end. The foam wiper I bought for it seems to be a little to big on the OD. It wants to fold over when going into the tube. I may try and find some felt to replace it with. I have more foam rings, but I am not sure if they are the best either. Take great care with that rear sight, a piece of mine was cracked and broke off during assembly. The sight now has left to right movement. I did find the bases for sale so I bought one, and I found a guy that is printing them so I bought one of those also just to have on hand.

Could you post a link so that those who might need those sight parts can find them?
