Daisy 717 - Windage adjustment problem

Hello All

New here with this first post. I friend has a 717 and it is very accurate. I recently purchased one and I can not get it to align. The windage adjustment is all the way Left and it still shoots too far to the right. Daisy pellets are really bad and Beeman are better but still about two inches right 33ft. Any suggestions as to what to check? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Rick - welcome to the forum!

I am no expert on the 717, but for a recoilless gun to be that far off, my first guess would be that something is physically mis-aligned. Maybe the front sight is a little tilted, or the barrel is out of kilter?

Are you shooting the gun the same way you shot your friend's? I.e., if you're shooting yours offhand, vs. using a rest with the other, that might make a difference.

Thanks MDriskill for the reply and the welcome. I have shot my friend's offhand and done much better than I can shoot my gun using a rest. This gun is so simple, it is hard to visualize where it can be off. I have disassembled it and will clean and oil it before reassembly. I am waiting on some Pellgun oil. I will follow up with a post after it is tested again. Thanks

Perhaps this will be of help-

1- check that the front sight has been installed correctly.

2- check that the rear sight is not damaged or missing parts.

3- check to see if the crown crown is damaged. If it is, a new barrel may cost less than a recrown.

Thank you Big Two Hearted River. I appreciate the links and I have saved them. I am guessing based on your user name that you live in the UP, you like Hemingway or both. I spent a good part of my life in the UP. I now live just south of the Mackinac Bridge.

I disassembled the gun and saw nothing unusual except for the oil wiper foam) starting to break down. I cleaned everything including the barrel and replaced the seals and oil wiper. The gun is now very accurate with both the Beeman and Daisy pellets. I can only surmise that it was not developing full power. The pump adjustment was correct prior to the work at 1 1/4". The rear sight has 5 notches on either side of the center line for windage adjustment. Mine is at 3 notches to the left for point of impact. My friend's is at the same point. If anything changes, I will post again. Now I just need to practice so I can out shoot my friend.

Thanks MDriskill for your contribution as well.
