Tuning Daystate Delta Wolf AVS vs Custom Tune Settings ? Your Experience ?

Has anybody compared the delta wolf in AI AVS Automatic Velocity Setting vs custom settings ?

I am curious if it is worth the hassle of going into the custom setting just so much to change versus setting a regulator and the AVS to hit the speed of the pellet I want to shoot at. I am trying to achieve a mild tune with shot count in mind for a .177 10 or 13 grain slug.

So say I have a 10 Grain .177 Slug, curious on the best way to go about hitting a 880 fps tune ?

In the AVS mode would it be better to start at a reg pressure of 90 bar and keep trying to get the AVS to hit the 880 fps speed ?

If so say we slowly creep up the reg from 90, 100, 110 bar to where we finally hit the speed ? Anybody have experience in this method versus going into the custom tune settings?

How much more accurate or how efficient are the custom tune settings versus the AVS settings ?

As you know this can be a black hole of time spent especially with so little information out on these guns ?

Hi Jay

The Factory settings will work for most people. The advantage is that you can set your velocity and the chronograph / GCU will do the rest. This is useful when testing different velocities. The disadvantage is that if you choose a velocity other than the Factory settings, it will take a few shots for the chronograph / GCU to make the changes. And whenever the action goes to sleep, the GCU will have to do it again. From the factory the Huma reg also comes maxed out for your caliber. This allows the user to shoot from the lowest velocity up to the highest velocity. But as you can image that's not ideal unless your goal is to shoot high power.

The advanced settings are much more stable. Once you figure out which weights/velocities you like to shoot, you can easily create Advanced profiles that will be spot on from the very 1st shot. The chronograph will still display your velocity, but it is not used to change the GCU. You're also able to achieve a much smoother shot cycle with Advanced settings. Your DW should offer some preprogrammed Advanced settings which are actually pretty good. Or you can notate the Advanced settings and go from there.

Note - that in both Factory and Advanced settings the GCU will recommend the ideal pressure for the manually adjustable Huma reg.

Michael thanks for replying. I seen some of your videos as well and good stuff. So right now the factory settings for a .177 seem very lets say un-optomized. Basically if I want a 13 grain pellet to shoot 810 to 1020 it asks for a regulator of 185 bar lol. I know many people including bob arzona , indicating that the reg pressure SUGGESTED settings is way to high. In shooting this it feels very efficient with air.

I am curious on your thoughts of using the tune and adjusting the regulator up to the specific FPS value. Say .177, 23 inch barrel, 13 grn, and set the fps to 880 with 13 grain slugs. I could set the regulator to 90/100 bar and work up from there to get the desired speeds. My question is this the most efficient use of air ?

hmmmmm

I saw some settings from the Patagonia delta wolf tunner and he had some nice tunes, but still not that much power but pretty good shot count.

Thanks again for you reply.........

I only used the factory settings, when I first got the DW .177 HP a little more than a year ago 🙂

Been using the custom settings ever since and can get the velocities needed at lower regulator pressure and a bit more consistant as well 👍

I am shooting the JSB KO 13.43 gr at 920-925 FPS with great results - Reg pressure is around 148 bar, but it will shoot consistant even when getting below the 148 bar point.

I do believe that the electronics is very good at adjusting and only using the air needed, so a better shot count is the result ! 🙂

Tried uploading a picture of my settings, but got an error from the AGN site !

Hammer = 2200
Voltage = 78.0 V
Pres. Set. = 148 bar
