Daystate Red Wolf HP vs Impacts For Slugs Long Distance ?

Anybody have experience with .177 to .30 cal Red Wolf HP vs FX Impacts using slugs at long distance, say 200, 300 yards ?

So my understanding is that the Red Wolf HP kind of comes out of the box slug ready. I have read on this forum that it is already tunned or able to tune very easily to shoot slugs in .177 to .30 cal. I am most interested in .177 and .22 cal though.

The FX impacts seem like a hybrid solution and you have to tune them with slug liners and all types of settings to get the to perform as well as the red wolf hp ?

Is this true. I seen some really good long distance slugging from both brands, but I rather have an easier solution than going FX and buying additional parts ?

What's your experience for out of the box accuracy in shooting slugs ?

I’ve had a .22 Red Wolf HP for two years. My gun shoots .217 JSB Knock Out slugs as good as it does the RD Monster pellets. In fact, if I had to choose between the two at 100 yard BR competition for score I’d shoot the KO slugs. I shoot them at 990 fps.

Center did you make many mods to your rifle. I am looking for the best option right out of the box. Been curious in the American air arms .22 as well. Impacts have a bunch of adjustments but really just want something a little more turn key if possible.

Jay, the RW HP will shoot those out of the box at about 945 fps on Medium and about 990 on High power, maybe a little higher. When you get your gun all you need to do is clean the barrel really well and then shoot. The gun is good enough out of the box to be competitive at the Pro level for EBR and RMAC, as long as you meticulously sort your RD Monsters and have the required shooter skills. My gun was good enough to shoot the overall high score at RMAC this year out of approx. 350 cards shot and 150 competitors.

Mine shot that way right out of the box, but I did later add a HeliBoard for increased flexibility and ease of tuning. One misconception is that it will make your gun more accurate or give a more consistent ES or pellet/slug speed. That just isn’t true. The HeliBoard does give you 12 power levels vice 3, and also makes it easier to fine tune your speed within each power level. You don’t need a separate tuner with the HB.

The .22 AAA Evol HPS is a very good gun, but while it shoots RD Monster pellets well, my buddy and fellow Team shooter Derrick @zx10wall couldn’t get it to shoot slugs nearly as well as the RDMs. The .22 RW HP is a tournament proven gun that recently won EBR. ‘’Nuff said.

Sounds very encouraging. CenterCut, would you suggest a certain moderator ? I have a few Dony FL tantos and ones that generic ones that fit on impacts or wildcats in .177 and .22 caliber. I am not sure on the threading but I do know silencer / Moderators do mater for groupings seems to me when they match up it is nice and can be a little off if not so. Would you suggest the DONY FL tanto in .22 or other brand ?

Thanks again, I might send you a private email

Jay,

Agree with CC here. Another vote for the 25g JSB Knock Outs.

I shoot my Daystate Safari HP .22 very often at both 50 and 100 yards at my local outdoor (wind tunnel - 😀) range.

Mine is stock and out of box, no Heliboard. It shoots the RDs at 970 on medium and about 940-945 FPS for the JSB KO’s on medium setting. Have done a lot of testing with the 100 yard EBR cards and also shot a ton of N50 official sized cards.

The Knock Outs are better (for me) and more accurate at 50y than the RD monsters. At 100 yards, it’s close but the slugs are still better. I do get two or three flyers while shooting an EBR card ( 25 shots, 5 bulls) with the RDs at 100y, but I don’t sort and size and that’s why I’m sure. I don’t shoot or test beyond 100 yards, and have no interest right now.

Re. Knock Outs - Have shot a bunch of N50 cards with about a half dozen in the low to mid 240’s. One lucky ‘239’ EBR card with KO’s, but my realistic EBR scoring range is 215-220 with my wind reading skills, which are lacking !

Very satisfied with how the Safari shoots the Knock Outs.
