Tuning Daystate Redwolf .25 power loss

Hi all.

I have had my Redwolf for a year and a half and have noticed that when i first got it brand new from the dealer it was averaging 921fps with 25.39g jsb kings and 860fps with 33.94g jsb King heavies mk1 .

But now I have noticed a power drop of 25fps with the 25g jsbs and 50 fps with the 33g jsbs , my question is , is this normal and to be expected over time with electronic air guns .an air gunning friend of mine who works with electronics told me to check the connections on the board for any oxidation ( there was none).

This power drop is apparent when my helliboard is fitted as also when my factory daystate board is fitted.

Breech seal may be the problem but since the index pin is air actuated, you may see/feel air movement no matter what. Easy enough to change the breech seal and the two o-rings that flank the transfer port.

When I received a brand new normal power (FAC) RW in .177 it shot to spec relative to what was observed at Daystate factory testing and some additional testing that AOA did. I chronograped for several days and things were very consistent so I put away the chronograph. A month or so later I revisited things and observed a 25-30 FPS decrease in FPS at all 3 power levels. Spent days troubleshooting (breech seal, index pin, other seals, battery pellet lubed or not, etc) and could never get that 4% loss in FPS back. Getting the index pin actuator out and changing that seal was the most difficult thing for me. Baker airguns gave me the option to send the rifle to Daystate for warranty repair. I wanted to see how things evolved and postponed sending in my new rifle knowing I had a 5 year warranty. > 7 months and almost 20K shots later there has been no further decline in FPS and the RW is very accurate, but that 4% loss in power is still apparent. So I think I'm OK and have just accepted the drop in power. At the same time the "honeymoon" with the RW has subsided and when/if another issue arises, I will send the rifle in for warranty repair and have them take a look at the loss in power too. Like you I searched the online forums and called many people to try to get an answer for this. A few others have indicated that they had made a similar observation and/or it is normal. Not saying that came from Daystate or some other official authority. At the same time I have friends that have RWs and they have NOT observed any loss in power....

Good luck!

If its not the breech seal barrel o-ring it's likely that tiny o-ring sealing that pop up actuator pin. The new magazine version models probably won't have this issue if they sealed that part where the pin pops up.

The only other thought could be not a much juice feeding the capacitors perhaps battery wear due to age and or capacitor age.

I’m going to say something stupid, I know this is the place to do it. I had a similar issue with an FX Boss. I had checked it when I got it years ago and was bored one day last winter and decided to check it again. It was down on power. Took a few minutes to realize it was the temperature. My first chrony was in August, probably 90 degrees, second was dead of winter, about 20 degrees. Checked it again with a warm gun and power was normal. I have noticed temperature changes seem to effect different guns differently. Just a thought if there was a large temperature change.
