Daystate Regal or FX Monsoon

Hey all, finally back from the 4th of July trip from Michigan and while I was there a few of the locals there had some PCP rifles that they owned. After getting to know them they let me test the Daystate Regal and the FX Monsoon since I've never shot a PCP rifle before. I'm generally into target shooting to improve my shooting experience and in the future I plan on entering competitions, so after shooting these two guns I'm now stuck between these two. I like the Monsoons 12 shot magazine and the level of noise after each shot, while the Regal has the optional shot tray that reminds me of shooting the springer and the easy recharge of the tank. Both seemed too weigh the same except for the Regal was slightly heavier due to the scope and the shroud over the muzzle, I've never had a preference for wood or synthetic stock since most of my guns that have some kick get a recoil absorber on the butt of the gun.

So if anyone could give a few pros and cons of the two so it can make my decision a little easier, and I can get both right now for around $1,700 so price didn't make anything easier.
 
Between the two rifles, I'd take the Regal. I like the classic look of the rifle and It can be had for several hundred dollars less then the Monsoon. If it's for target, you don't need the semi auto so, why pay extra for it. Airguns of Arizona has them at $1295. The Monsoon is $1595. 

Now, if it were me, I'd get a BSA R-10. Less then both, easily as accurate, perfect ergonomics, beautiful stock, and regulated. All for $1169.99 plus free shipping at Pyramus Air. Just my $.02.

My pleasure. Glad I was helpful. I know you may be able to find more advanced rifles but, I'm not sure you'll find more accurate ones. BSA barrels are very, very good. There is also options for bigger tanks, better regulators and shorter barrels. Mine will give me 100 shots at 810 FPS, with 16 grain pellets out of a 12" BSA Ultra barrel. Overall length, 35 inches. With all the settings the same and the stock barrel, 887 FPS. Both barrels are easily under a penny at 30 yards.

SO you have a choice between a single shot repeater, and a semi-automatic. 
The sinlge shot...having less parts to deal with...will be a much easier gun to care for.
I have read of some of the difficulties surrounding the action in the semi-auto---it's very good, but not perfected!

You mentioned that you were going to use these rifles for competition....What kind of competitiom? Benchrest of Field Target...because I am uncertain if you can use a semi-auto in field target and you can't use one in Benchrest rest competitions

Unless you want the semi-auto for firing a crazy amount of pellets in a short period of time...I would go with the Daystate so that You can enter competitions with that rifle

Woh woh woh. I have both of these and they are totally different. Apples and oranges. As they mentioned the semi-auto is another factor in the scheme of things and makes it not comparable.

As for the breakdowns of the monsoon. I understand what they are saying as there have been some problems but if one knows the gun and knows how to fix it quickly in the event it had indexing problems, etc it is relatively neutral for breakdowns. However, I would say that the Revolution (also own) is just a much better gun and does a better job at indexing the semi through it's air return system.

That said... if you want bat-poop crazy fun--- get the Monsoon. If you want to shoot single shots with a quality gun but nothing crazy get the Daystate.

Also remember that these guns are not regulated. Guns like the fx Royale 400 and BSA rifles are regulated. Just check with the store or supplier to make sure they are regulated. I love all airguns, but it seems like I'm leaning more and more towards the regulated rifles, since they are more consistent.

Oh by the way, I love my Monsoon, it's a crazy gun just to have fun with. A little harder if you want to make it in to a target gun. Every time the action shake through it's cycling you are loosing accuracy.

Just a thought.

If you haven't already purchased one yet, I can throw in an endorsement for the BSA R-10. I'm amazed that the gun isn't much more expensive considering the laundry list of features it offers for the money and if nothing else, the lights out accuracy their barrels offer. This and the FX Royale 500 are the two most consistently accurate guns I've shot. Admittedly I've never shot a Daystate but for as gorgeous and accurate as the BSA is I might never get the chance to as I won't be able to justify the purchase having the BSA in the stable.
