Tuning Daystate Regulator has wide spread and what to do

I'm getting an inconsistent and random spread of 60 fps on a 850 fps 177 gun. Gun shoots well and can hit targets but when I read about 1-2% spreads and am getting 6-8% I start to wonder? 

What causes a regulator to fluctuate like this? Thanks

Is the oring in the barrel or pellet probe in good shape ?

In some rifles, a dirty hammer and spring assembly can cause this behavior. I had that experience with my RAW. But, it depends on the hammer design and how it moves in the action, and I don't know if that can be an issue in your rifle.

What pellet head size are you using? My Huntsman likes 452 the best. The 450 and 451 head sizes that I purchase by accident turn into my plinking ammo.

I've read that break in time is often needed for a new regulator to settle in and get consistent.

Replaced probe, barrel O-rings, has had about 500 rounds shot

The regulator has 500 rounds through it? or the o-rings have 500 rounds though them?

Could be the regulator just breaking in, could be the seat on the regulator, dirty spring guide, to much lubrication on internals. Could be quite a few things. Personally I would take the rifle down and make sure everything is clean and good to go.

Also IMPORTANT ... What Pellet are you using when noting this ES issue ?

If cheap pellets, there weight, size or non concentric profile can easily create this issue.

Merely switching to JSBs and everything came back into line with a 5-6 fps variation

Wow talk about an ample demonstration of how important finding the right pellet is!

Got to love a KISS solution, the Revere is a notoriously great shooter. Enjoy
