Daystate Daystate Revere - .177 Caliber

Hey Guys,
Recently purchased a .177 caliber, Daystate Revere (non-regulated) Airgun from AOA on their Black Friday sale.

Always wanted to own one for their looks, light weight and accuracy.

I likely will tune it shortly after receiving … to get between 18-22 FPE, while installing a regulator, LDC and hopefully a SSG.

I‘m also assuming it will be a Huma regulator with a 12/15 cc plenum at about 120 bar set-point. Hopefully, I can keep the plenum relatively small and bump the pressure up to 120 bar to save airspace. I think I’ll try JSB 10.34 or 13.43 grain pellets first to see whats achievable. This will not be a POWER gun, but a sweet pinker giving me about 75 shots per fill.

Questions:
- Do my tuning estimates seem about right?
- Has anyone created a working SSG for this gun?

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated :) .
Kirk

PS: Adding a .20 LW barrel is also a possibility🤷🏻‍♂️ ……

Hello Kirk
If I were you I'd shoot the Revere for a while before adding a regulator, adjusting the factory tune, or looking for an SSG.
Unregulated Revere are capable of very consistent and lengthy shot counts, and their hammer system is superb.
No insult intended
Just my 2 psi
Edward

PS
Meanwhile I'll be following because I am curious about the replies you get

I've owned both regulated and non versions of the rifle. I'd shoot it as-is initially, they are very capable as delivered. 75 shots is a very aggressive goal, and I don't think you will achieve that level unless you add a reg and drop the power down considerably, which might require a change of hammer and spring. It's a great rifle, but maybe not the best for much tinkering.

Thanks Edward,
I will wait and shoot at factory settings until at least after the New Year.
If I can get a decent shot string with an ES under 20, I may leave it.

Installing a Spring Stop Guide (SSG) would increase efficiency about 20-25%, but is more typically used in a regulated gun.

No need for the ssg as the slingshot hammer is pretty efficient already. My unregged gets about 60 shots from 200 bar down to 150-140ish. Only swings 20 fps up and down across the curve slinging 10.5s a little over 900 fps. No reg needed.
Hey Joe,
I was unaware of the Slingshot hammer design ….. and YES, need to learn more before doing anything. Don't need to re-create the wheel if it’s already round ;) .

These really aren't the most tunable guns. The existing hammer/spring/valve system has barely any adjustability built in. When I tried to tune my .177 Regal (unregged), the most adjustability that I remember getting was maybe 1fpe at most.

However, what these guns ARE more than make up for this. They are simple, reliable, well-built, compact, and accurate. They are superb guns for the price. They just aren't designed for a lot of tunability.

Also, my unregged Regal got about 60 shots at the top of the curve, at +/- 20fps. Their slingshot system really works well!

Yeah, years ago I regulated and lightened the hammer on my BAM B50 to get 70* shots per fill at 20 FPE. I also modified the hammer spring, porting and valve spring and poppet.

That was a lot of work o_O, but helped me better understand how to tune a PCP.

It sounds like this gun will not be as easy to modify:p.

Yeah, sounds like I will have to evaluate the latest Daystate (engineering) updates on the gun, since I‘ve only worked on BAM B50/B51’s (Chinese clone) created in the early 21st century.

Kirk...CONGRATULATIONS! I had an older Regal non regulated that had the Slingshot hammer system, great consistent shooting gun! Mine was in .22. Back then I was hoping to add a reg but eventually sold it as I got my RAW.
Yeah Randy,
I’ve now got the Revere, BSA R10 and the (3) RAW’s as my top PCP’s.
I always lusted for this gun and now will see how she works 💥🎯🚀

The only thing I didn't like about my revere was OAL after adding a moderator. If they made a true carbine version that had a functional baffled shroud, it would be awesome. That of course would lower the power, but mid 20 fpe(22 cal) is still plenty for small game hunting which is what the gun is meant for.

All they'd need to do it shorten the barrel 3" and fill that space with baffles and an air stripper. I almost did mine like that, but couldn't bring myself to chop up such a fine gun.

@Kerndtc = may have an answer.

Stopping Spring Guide, stops hammer bounce.

A good rule of thumb is 1cc of plenum per 1 fpe of energy, or thereabouts. So probably 18 fpe is doable. I don't think you would need an ssg with Daystate having the slingshot hammer, which serves the same purpose.

My thoughts.....I've had more than one Huntsman (Un-reg'd) and I could never get the ES down to less than 15 fps without truncating the shot curve to where I only got a very low shot count. I contrast this with any of the Air Arms ( again Un-reg'd) rifles, which will provide many, many more shots with an even lower ES. I'm not sure how AA does it, but they know how to make Un-reg'd guns for sure. It has to do with that little brass tube in the air cyl, but I've never researched it. I saw a post a while back asking about installing a reg in an AA HFT500, the reply was painfully accurate....." Doesn't need one"
