That's a great idea!
I was thinking about just welding an empty one closed, but all I have is a stick welder and 3/32" rod. That's more of a TIG kinda project. Maybe drill and tap the end of one, loc-tite a screw into it, then grind it down a little.
My Dad is a retired tool and die maker and it would be good to get some shop time in with him. He enjoys it too. He still laughs at some of the stuff I come up with (and that's okay).
