Dead Shoebox New GX CS4=-i

I rebuilt an F8 Shoebox about three years ago and it has given great service in topping off tanks ever since. Sadly, it failed a few days ago. I think I have another rebuild kit squirreled away somewhere and I will try to resurrect the F8 once again.

Since I need a compressor right now, I bought a new GX CS4-i which should arrive next week. So far, so good. However, the Shoebox has spoiled me regarding water removal. The 125 psi external first stage condenses out a a lot of moisture in the form of liquid water and a large low-pressure indicating bead desiccator between the first stage and the Shoebox does a great job of delivering dry air to the Shoebox itself.

So I have two questions. First does the CS4-i have any mechanism to purge liquid water from the compressor? And second, what constitutes a competent high pressure water separator/ output filter for the CS4-i? I've read a lot of posts on the subject of high pressure water separators/output filters and I believe that one of the $75.00 molecular sieve "Gold" filters will serve the purpose if the CS4-I has some means to purge liquid water. I appreciate any and all advice.

I think you will like the CX-4i. I bought one recently to replace my Shoebox F10. So far I have just been filling my rifle directly and haven’t used a filter. It fills the rifle in a couple minutes and just haven’t hooked up a filter as it doesn’t even get warm. I know I should though. I have a nice carbon fiber tank and think I might just sell it And fill my rifle directly from the pump. At 2 minutes to top off my rifles that pump should last forever.

Really, the only parts not available for the Shoebox are the custom parts such as;
Cylinders
.25" Dia. Delrin Piston/Cylinder Spacers (.125" Dia. are available from OCO Labs)
Main Block
Piston Support Stantion
Piston Clamping Block
.25" Check Valves (.125" Dia. are available from OCO Labs)
Small Piston Bearing at Support Stantion (.125" Dia. are available from OCO Labs)
The BOX itself, which you likely already have, as well as the front cover.
Most everything else is available, much of it from McMaster-Carr.
I have assembled a spreadsheet that has virtually all of the parts listed and links to where you can buy them ( a few minor holes, but pretty complete!). If you want the spreadsheet, I can easily PM it to you.

I'm looking forward to trying out the new CS4. Does your compressor have a built-in water separator? When you open the bleed valve, does it discharge any liquid water?

Thanks

I use one of these, comes with an extra filled filter and you can purchase just the filled filters.

I looked that one up. It seems to be very well regarded. I think I might need a separate stand-alone water separator to compliment the filter - more research needed.

Thanks

JackHughs.

Yes. Please PM the spreadsheet. I think I have a complete rebuild kit stashed somewhere in the house but I haven't found it yet.

Thanks

new gx cs4i coming, gonna swap the gold thing

The new CS4-i compressor and the external "Gold" filter arrived yesterday afternoon. I got the system up and running this morning and filled a 9L tank from 260 BAR to 300 BAR in approximately 30 minutes

Installed a small handpump filter between the compressor and the Gold filter to act as a water separator (condenser). Everything worked as it should and I was surprised to discover how much water and grease the handpump filter captured and how little air was lost in bleeding the two filters.

I like it! I hope it lasts.
