Decided I need an FX Wildcat MKIII

Within that range and for that quarry, a .22 Compact shooting either 18.1's or tuned down with the power wheel to shoot Hades pellets would be very handy and plenty powerful. And since it will sport the 500mm barrel, inherent accuracy is excellent and there is plenty of barrel length to achieve a wide variety of tunes.

And much to one's chagrin (who just loves to complain about FX's), they are currently in stock at Baker Airguns and likely other dealers.

Going to the Sniper model loses some of the handiness, and isn't in my mind necessary for that game at those distances. But for the inconvenience of a longer gun, you do get higher shot count and more power. But are these needed for your intended use?

I've owned the compacts in .22 and .25, but never a sniper model.

Cmatera,

It's been a rocky road for me and my MK3 Wildcat, but, setting all that aside, I can vouch for the perfect ergonomics of the stock, the crisp trigger feel and the smoothness of the cocking mechanism. She's been at FX-USA since 12/15, and is missed daily. I support your decision and have noticed availability improving. Best of Luck, WM

P.S. My vote is for the .25 Sniper, using included DonnyFL.

I have a Compact MKII in 25 that is my walking around and truck gun. I have shot it at 100 yards off of a bench and prone and it shoots very nice. Longest shot with it hunting was 80 yards on a ground squirrel. At the distance you are shooting, a compact will be fine.....If you want to go to the heavier pellets sniper is the one to go for. I shoot the 25 kings out of the compact and get 24 shots.....I can get up to 30, but then it falls off the reg.

I had both the MK III Sniper in .25 and the Compact (in .25, then switched to a .22). Ergonomically, I loved them both, but the Compact was definitely the more handy package to walk around with. My .25 Compact was giving me 55 FPE using 33 grain JSBs as it arrived from Ken Hicks at SPAW. In .22 it was a lovely shooting gun, and deadly accurate out to 50 yards (as far as I took it). Apart from the higher shot count I can’t see a reason to choose the Sniper, assuming you have other guns that can give you more power when you need it.

I sold the Sniper because I was buying a bunch of semi-auto airguns, and because I had other guns (Impact, Crown) to give me more power when I wanted it. I eventually sold the compact to help finance my Leshiy 2, Pro X and K1 purchases and because it duplicated what i had in my .22 Verminator MK II. I am currently considering getting another one, because I miss it.

I have the .25 MKIII Compact, and it is a fabulous gun. It's fined tuned to shoot the Hades, but it also shoots the AA 25's and JSB 25's like a laser. I vote for the .25 compact, obviously. I have taken pigeons out to 90 yards with it. You can always get a .22 barrel kit later, and tune it down or use it to shoot .22 slugs. I tend to buy a larger caliber and then buy lower caliber barrel kits. In my experience, one caliber down is no problem and there's a nice band of power available in the stepped down caliber. I have a .30 Maverick that spends most of it's time as a .25 for hunting, but is currently running as a .22 plinker as everything here is buried in snow, and there's not much to hunt. Either way, the MKIII is a sweet compact platform.

I also have the Wildcat Compact in .22

And it is tuned to shoot the 18.1 JSBs. But, I don't shoot them in it. I shoot the .249 17.5 grain nielsons in it.

They are 1 moa at 100 yards so it can reach out when I need it to. And please don

t ask me about PW adjustment. It came tuned for the 18.1s I can't really tell you the reg setup as it uses the factory guage. I can tell you it is between 100 and 110. PW is set on 6. But that means nothing if I don't know how far the HS is turned. It shoots great though/.

I have the Sniper lll in .25. I do a lot of fox, coyote, and woodchuck hunting. So I am partial to the longer barrel and longer shot string. I also shoot NSA 33.5 slugs. It’s been modded and I have had it shooting over 70 fpe. I love the gun. It handles and balances wonderfully. Not to mention the trigger is awesome. If I were just shooting birds, squirrels, rabbits and targets, I would be content with a shorter 22. But I own this pup so I am partial to it.
