RAW Rapid Deciding between a DonnyFL Koi and Sumo on my .25 RAW

I know the Sumo might be a little quieter, but the size and weight is also a little more than the Koi. With the thin, floating barrel on the RAW rifle I am thinking the thinner but slightly longer Koi might look a little more uniform but still do a good job. The RAW rifle I bought did not come with a moderator and I need to quiet it down some for sure.

Does anyone own both on a RAW and have any opinions?

At my next RAW service thru Martin, I will have him put on a unf 1/2 20 adapter. I have used a Sumo and a Tatsu on a JSAR Raptor .22, it seemed both did a good job. Friend has a KOI on his .22 RAW and it is just a smidge louder to me not too noticeable. I have an older RAW with an OEM conventional moderator that does a good job but I think it could definitely be hushed more.

I saw that last week and thought it was weird. Still plenty of sites that have them in stock.

Just to correct a statement, the RAW does not have a thin floating barrel. It is a solid LW barrel with a thin carbon fiber sleeve bonded to it. It is also not a tensioned barrel.
I did a lot of testing with moderators a couple of years ago (all of the DonnyFL, 0db, Huggett, and Impulse Air that were available), with varying results on accuracy. Most were pretty quiet on my .22 and .25 cal RAW’s, and they would cause some POI shift, but I found that the Impulse Air moderator with its stackable sections and cone-shaped inner design actually let me tune my group size by adding or removing sections. No other moderator let me do that. And it’s quiet too!

I briefly used a Koi on a 25 cal Cricket. I didn’t get the tightest groups with it, the Sumo was far better. In fact, the Sumo performs great on every rifle I have ever put it on. I landed on a Tatsu for my Cricket, because it grouped well and provided plenty of sound reduction with the factory shroud. I have a lower power 25 cal now and use the Tatsu on that. My sumo pretty much stays on my PP700SA when it has a 22 cal barrel in it.

He is still making them, just not selling them on his site anymore. They are still widely available through the normal vendors.

I ended up going with the Koi, I hope I don’t have the same experience as you did with it. I miss being able to buy them on this site but I understand the decision.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I tried both of those on my RAWs and didn't like them as well as the Impulse Air.
