It was a ‘gift’ from a gracious friend as he keyed in on my lamenting on selling an HW97 in .20 cal years ago. It was a shooting SOB that I basically swapped for an RX2 in 20 cal that I thought would be better for squirrels. I never warmed up to that one. The 97 just shot so incredibly well I was disappointed in the RX2. He bought me a new 97k in 177 as a thank you for a small thing I did but apologized as he couldn’t find one in 20 caliber for me…and now 6 mo later they are in stock and w/ a nice walnut stock. Such is life .And Msalm, tell us more about the 97K .177 you got, as well, the one with only a few tins through it!!
Want to PM me? I don’t know how to do it…It was a ‘gift’ from a gracious friend as he keyed in on my lamenting on selling an HW97 in .20 cal years ago. The 177 is also extremely accurate and extremely nice…I just have really fond memories of that 20 cal from years ago.
Shooting the 75 yard targets today.I have a suspicion you will like this rifle , a lot !
I’m new(er) here myself and don’t see an option for a PM…Want to PM me? I don’t know how to do it…
I’ve got a .22 and was thinking of getting a .177 as well
Funny. I’m new too. I lurked until everyone here gave me the confidence to buy my first Weihrauch air rifle. I think we have to have 10 posts before we can PM.I’m new(er) here myself and don’t see an option for a PM…
Nothing at all, just a beech stock, dampa mount, Vector Veyron 2-12x44. Shoots a few different pellets well enough I don’t feel the need to mess with it at all…other than make it a .20 caliber.Funny. Oh well maybe I’m getting closer by typing this…
I wanted to ask you which stock you had (thumb holes, laminate, black, etc…) and whether you had done any tuning on it.
.177 JSB Exact 8.44 ?Shot JSB’s quite well, 1/4” at 25…very few fliers that made it 1/2” or so
I started with JSB Exact 13.79.s and haven’t shot any thing else. I’m on my 12th tin, and haven’t had reason as yet to shoot anything else, although I do have about five other .20 cal ammo on hand.I still think the issue is the limited choices of ammo with a 20 cal but if it shoots jsb 20 gd then I guess your gd with the 20
Same here, but it’s a Crown.0.20 is a nice caliber. Wish I could find a .20 for my FX impact.
There's either something wrong with your 95 or your springer technique needs to be fine tuned. At fifty yards in decent conditions a 22 Hw95 should hold 2" groups. Or better.I have three Weirauch rifles, a HW-30 in .177 cal., a HW-95 in .22 cal., and a HW-80K in .20cal. also have a vintage Sheridan Blue Streak Pneumatic rifle in .20 caliber, I really like the .20 cal.. I believe it's the best of both worlds between the .177 and the .22 cal., especially for small game hunting or pest control.
However, I've found that when it comes to distances over 40 yds. the .22 caliber has the advantage, another consideration is that when it comes to .20 caliber pellets there isn't much in the way of variety and they can be expensive when they get scarce which they do quite often, and with the advent of air gun makers cutting out the .20 cal. in their offerings it doesn't look like it's going to get any better in the future.
Personally I'm well stocked in .20 caliber for hunting, but mostly shoot .177 and .22 cal. for fun and target because it's easy to get and reasonably inexpensive.
Also, if you are expecting target accuracy past 50 yds. with a springer of any make you're asking allot, I shot my Weirauch HW-95 in .22 cal. yesterday at 25 and at 50 yards, at 25 yds. I put about 175 shots into a half dollar size groups, but at 50 yds. my groups opened up to about 4 inches, at 100 yds. most didn't even get on paper.
My adult son was shooting next to me and getting 5/8" groups at 50 yds. and 1" groups at 100 yds. with his two PCP rifles, one in .22 cal. the other in .25 cal., if your after long distance accuracy I suggest you consider PCP instead of springers, personally I'm a break barrel guy, I own springers and gas ram rifles and I'm content with keeping my shooting under 50 yds. and I'm not into hauling air compressors, hand pumps, or scuba tanks around when going to the range or the squirrel woods, just me the gun, and some pellets is more my style, as long as I accept my rifles limitations I'm happy.
