Currently i have a Benjamin discovery and wanted to add a bullpup to my arsenal and get a little bit deeper into pcp air rifles. I thought a budget of around $6-700 dollars. I was looking at a Benjamin Akela in .22 for $600. Really love the look and i started researching the Akela all the time. I was set and just about to order it and then i found a used FX Wildcat in .25 with a Huggett snipe moderator for about $800 and now im torn. I know these two rifles are not in the same class but I dont know what used wildcats should bring. I could spend the extra money on the gun but it will take away from my scope budget and loose the warranty on a new rifle. what would you do? Cheaper rifle/nice scope/warranty? More expensive rifle/wait on scope/unknown condition/no warranty? I would love to hear why and which you would choose. Thanks.

If you can swing it....FX WC all day! You can always take your time save some more money to get a decent scope for it! You can always change caliber's easily with FX. The WC is regulated, better barrels, more power, more efficient with air, probably more accurate, more aftermarket parts/mods, better trigger...h'mmm....

Which generation Wildcat is it? A MK III is a no brainer. probably also true for a Mark 2. I'm not so sure about the first generation one and whether or not its that much better than an Akela. But yes, generally I am a big Wildcat fan.

It is the mk1 first gen. I have no clue what used wildcats go for or what it costs to rebuild if it's shot out.

Yep, you might be able to buy a used one. At any rate make sure it has a front cocking handle. Wildcat uses a probe. It's not a deal breaker but I wish it were a foster.i

I have a FX Bobcat MKll in 25 cal thats a lazer and holds air for ever.
I would let it go for $675.
Its been in my safe for too long and will be getting listed.
Let me know if you have any interest this model has 2 power levels that are externally adjustable.

I started out like you — with something from the bargain barrel.
But within a short time, my interest in airgunning climbed, and I kept looking for something better, more capable of doing more.
So, I looked for a mid-priced PCP. And bought a China gun.
Some things broke with it, and I learned to fix them. I replaced some stuff. I learned to tune.
And still, my interest in airgunning kept climbing higher! So, then it was time to buy a high quality PCP.
Now, I could have gone straight to the expensive quality PCP.
But as long as you have opportunity to easily sell your mid-level PCP, either way is fine.
If you really want to save some money, watch the classified sub-forum closely, patiently waiting for a gun you like — at a price you're willing to pay. When you see something, act quickly.
And unless the seller has declared the price to be "firm" — feel free to send the seller a personal message with your counter offer.
If there is one thing that my buddies from the forums have taught me — it is the following slogan that I find true most of the time: "Buy once, cry once."

My motto is Buy nice or buy twice. After attending my first field target match I was hooked. I could have gone with a lower quality rifle, but I knew I wouldn't enjoy it as much and I didn't want to be held back by the rifle. Its why Ordered a revere safari and ghost. This way I have a quality rifle to let a friend use. Of course I'm likely about to pull the trigger on a midnight redwolf and maybe the new blue alpha wolf lol. Then hopefully I'll be set for a while other than a big bore.

I appreciate all the responses. I have decided the Akela is out. now, whether to buy this used wildcat mk1 .25 with moderator unknown condition at 800 (really wanted a .22), watch the classified forum and hope something else comes up or save up money and buy something new not necessarily wildcat (I do love the way the wildcat looks though). My problem with any hobby I get into is always... well this one is only a couple hundred more and so on and so on until iv doubled my initial budget!

Unless you’re in a hurry, pace back, there are lots of good choices, particularly if you up your budget… Lots of sweet guns pop up in the classifieds here. Oh, and get the caliber you want, the .25 will be pricier to shoot and will not be available to you locally like .177s or .22s. Good luck! And unless in a hurry, bide your time to your advantage.

The Akela is a great/accurate bullpup (beautiful Turkish Walnut) modeled along the lines of a Wildcat. If you get the Akela get it in .22. Also get a 0dB moderator for it.

That seems to be a common problem around here.
Are you sure you're wearing your face mask while browsing the AGN forum?
If you are not — then even without subjecting you to an antigen test — I can tell you with a 77.8% probability that you have contracted the AG•Shopper-19 disease and require immediate isolation from all and any airgun exposure.
Or just have another talk with the significant other to up your toy budget....!
