Or you wake up to an intruder in your bedroom. Think you want to be fumbling with loading a mag, getting the safety off. All before he gets too you?…. or I could just be use to condition one, cocked and locked.

Exactly!My in-house weapon is, when 'out' and ready is always ready to go, when in the safe in a ready state, mag is in but no round in the chamber. I don't have small children and when I did, I removed the mystery of firearms by letting them handle it, pounding it in that it's dangerous, I even bought a air soft that looked like it and let them tear the daylights out of aluminum cans with it, they got the idea., of course there was range time with PB's and their own MSR's. I'm not sure I'd keep a loaded airgun around but that's me. YMMV
