Beautiful fall weather greeted us on Saturday for our shoot. The temperature was in the high 40's and rose to the mid 70's later in the day. Definitely enough of a temp change to see if shooters had doped out their scopes for a change of distance readings. We had shooters from SC, NC, GA and Don Armstrong came down from VA. An inconsistent and frustrating wind seemed to target some shooters and not others. Always a joy to hold off outside the kz and see your pellet hit right where you aimed. It was not unusual to feel a beeze from your right, but see leaves down range moving the opposite direction.
The course was laid out like a hook so both sun and wind could vary greatly depending on your lane. We had one target that fell reliably when hit with a 20 ft/lb gun, but would malfunction for the WFTF shooters. It's likely that they were all missing, but the target was thrown out making a perfect score 58 instead of 60. Since the shooters were all experienced the Troyer for this course was 34.9 with multipliers applied only to standing and kneeling. There was one pain/gain target where the shooter could choose to go for 2 points if they hit the smaller (T53) target. To my knowledge only Chris Berry was successful in hitting this target both times. Awesome shooting Chris! Two other shooters deserve special kudos. Ken Hughes, shooting WFTF missed only one time for a 57/58. And Will Piatt (Mr. 58), shooting Open actually cleaned the course with a 58/58. Fantastic shooting guys!
After the shoot we all enjoyed a terrific lunch of fried chicken, salads, and some home made brownies. I'm sure no one left hungry. Overall a very good day sharing our interest in shooting on a challenging course. Some photos of the shoot and the final scores follow.
