I Posted this on the Yellows FT section but wanted to repeat it here for those who don't use the yellow Forum
Good host, interesting course, familiar shooters and of course a great lunch!
This match is like having your family and friends over for a cook out and yard games. Besides being in a woods atmosphere, you are not challenged with a load of walking between the lanes. The course set up, is along one side of a field, and the lanes close enough, that you can talk and joke with the squad next to you. However, the lanes present a totally different look then the last one. Really nice set up.
Mark’s course has some interesting things going on. Most all the shooters experience that weird wind condition where you see the grass or leaves blowing one direction at the target and your pellet goes the opposite direction when it reaches that target. I call it the What The….. effect.
I had the opportunity to be the top shooter in open PCP, (although not knowing at the time), when on the last two targets I missed both shots on them. The first I ranged wrong and the far target was ranged correct and I still missed. That dropped me to third behind our club’s top shooter Will Piatt, or as I like to call him Mr. 58. As well as Rob Seiden who I always seem to trail at events. Oh well, the quest to place no 1 continues…LOL
But seriously, the shoot here at South Carolina is one of the most relaxed and interesting shoots you can attend. It really seems like old friends getting together. In fact, by chance of the draw, I was partnered with Kevin Grimes my squad mate from last year. KEVIN, CALL ME! I NEED SOME MEASUREMENTS TO MAKE YOUR ALUM GUN CRADLE… He and I were also accompanied by Tim Ward a devoted springer shooter trying field target for the first time. Dude tried with a rifle that he did not have time to sight in as he arrived as we were starting, and no set up for FT. WHAT?? Still managed to put points on the card!. He will be a force when he gets a rifle set up specifically for FT… As 3 former military guys and a little older then some, we traded old war stories during the match.
Kudos to Ken Hughes on the match high, but I expected as much from a shooter of your quality Rob Seidon, I am still working on catching up to you. Perhaps this coming weekend at the Tennessee 120.???
Will (Mr. 58) Piatt, Well, the pellet God’s did me a disservice this match. I do appreciate the shooting advice you gave me and I will pump you for more when I can. You obviously give great advice since your son took it to heart and won the Nationals last year. I will take that advice of what you do during a match to keep from getting worn out, Ken does the same thing I found out,… Shhhhh!
If you can make the next match that Mark puts on, you will experience a good time, and fond memories!
