Delta to Alpha

I had the pleasure of converting my Deltawolf to an Alphawolf today. I also went from a .22 to a .177, I also upgraded the valve system.
Easy peasy - but - now I need some good resources (proven numbers) for tuning it.
Any suggestions appreciated!
I just use my AW in Factory Mode. No need for Advanced tuning at all.
Just dial in MV and she's there. All day long.

Experimentation...the key to success !
Do your own..."tuning". You may just find something that others haven't !
Your gun, your shooting, doesn't it stand to reason, it should be your tune values ?

Mike
I always like a starting point and since the one thing I don’t have is TIME having input from experienced people really helps the joy factor!

Do use multiple calibers? And a variety of pellets / slugs?
I'm pesting out to 75 yards, only back paddock stuff. But, I do have neighbours. So ~ 40 ft-lb with a Huggett Magna moderator is about as loud as I feel comfortable with.

I use only 0.22 and only with pellets.

I don't use slugs for a few reasons:
IME they lead up a pellet barrel real quick.
The twist rate on an AW is slow, 30:1, so not slug friendly.
In a suburban environment I prefer the rapid deceleration, lower B.C. of a pellet. Just in case the pellet pencils-through or a miss.

I like my airgunning to be safe, precise and unobtrusive.

I would suggest calling AOA and asking what the factory tunes are and what .177 pellets work best. It will save you some time. Either use those, or use them as jumping off point to develop your own tune.
Also, if you want to shoot slugs, you need to consider a different rifle.
Or wait until Daystate develops a slug barrel.

While the factory mode does work well, each time the GCU goes to sleep it takes several shots to “correct” the velocity. Combined that with a dirty internal chronograph sensor and your velocity could be way off.

I always use one of the advanced tuning programs. It’s much more consistent from the very 1st shot, and won’t the velocity won’t change based on what the chronograph is telling the GCU.

Not so in my experience.

AFAIK the first shot uses the same voltage and dwell as the last before power down.

I also use advanced mode. The first shot after a rest is at the most 10-12fps slower on my AW Safari .22. It was worse when new, but as the rifle broke in, it has gotten better and better. My zero stays the same.
I consider the factory/auto mode a gimmick to sell rifles. Same for the built in chrono. Factory mode jumps around all over the place until it settles. It has never been as consistent and give as tight of a standard deviation as advanced mode. With advanced mode my standard deviation less than 2 fps. Shoots like a laser and hits like a hammer.

Sounds like you guys haven't optimised reg pressure.

Or have refilled the bottle during power down.

If you have too high or too low reg pressure the first shot may well be slightly higher or lower than the following shots.

Me, I just add 10 bar to the "minimum". Then leave the reg alone.

And really, + 10 FPS is something to complain of ?
I had no idea you were supposed to have it powered on to refill. How does filling the rifle when powered down cause an issue?
And no, I'm not concerned about 10fps. Every rifle I own, FX to Benjamin and everything in between does this in one way or another. Unless I'm shooting at RMAC or the olympics, It's not going to affect my zero or the distances I'm hunting one bit.

You misunderstand.
I normally refill during power down but would anticipate a slightly higher MV for the first shot because of the higher reg pressure now being available than when it was powered down. As I said before, AFAIK, the AW uses the last shot voltage and dwell for the first shot after power down.
But if the reg pressure is slightly higher after a bottle refill the the same voltage and dwell will translate to a slightly higher MV.

My reg pressure is not a constant. It does vary slightly, not much, with bottle pressure.

But it does a good job considering it's paltry size and being only single stage.
