FT 1-12-25
Posted by Gary P. for our match director, Ron Z.
DeSoto Airgunners began the New Year with a 48 shot Field Target club match. Conditions couldn't have been much better. With a cloudless sunrise and brisk morning temps in the mid 40's, enthusiastic volunteers had the targets painted and the course set in short order. The 8 lane course included a designated standing and a kneeling lane. Note: Only ONE of our 13 competitors cleaned both forced position lanes.
Steady light winds between 6 and 8 mph gave our pellets a slight nudge, especially on the longer shots. This didn't bother Field Target maven Dennis D. Shooting Open pcp Dennis cleaned the course (48 pts.) and earned Top Gun recognition.
Also noteworthy, relative newcomer Rachel G. scored 46 pts. to lead the Hunter Division. She accomplished that fine score while shooting a shared rifle! We'll give her husband Steve G. some recognition for instructing Rachel so well that she topped his score.
Gary P. and Ron G. (both participants in the recent World FT Competition) shot the match with sub-twelve foot pound rifles. Target set up, testing and adjustment will become more critical to insure proper operation for the lower power airguns. A target on lane 4 was set closer than the AAFTA required 10 yard min. distance. Most shooters had no trouble with it.
Happy Returns-
We were thrilled to see Linda and Jerry M. return to the range after a summer of medical concerns. Jerry was feeling well to join the competition while Linda, still on the mend, observed the event as our Honorary Match Co-director. We hope to see Linda behind the trigger soon.
Newbie Fred Y. recently came to airgunning through archery which has a similar Field Target style game. For a new shooter at a new venue, with newly aquired equipment, Fred posted a very respectable score. Most important -with a smile and some excitement- Fred declared he's looking forward to future airgun events.
Many hands made light work of putting the toys and tools away. Thanks for making our 2025 kickoff a safe, fun, and exciting event. See you next month.
