Diamondback tactical Vortex 4-16x44

my critique.

watched Joe's video and he thought a lot of it. So, I'll try it.

Pros: Excellent glass, excellent weight, excellent clicks

Cons: Cost, I'd say at its limit! Turrets require the "coin" method of zeroing. Reticle is too thin. unless you're shooting @ a white/light background or across a tan prairie, reticles are Very difficult to see.

If your'e tree hunting or shooting @ dark targets you'll strain to see reticle. actually get a better reticle view through my nite sight screen.

Amazon prime and going back.

I got their Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50 FFP with the EBR-2C Mil Dot Reticle and it is beautiful, put it on a Edgun R5M and no problem at all with the reticle, it's just right. On lower power the reticle may be too thin but when you zoom up the magnification scale the reticle becomes thicker ... for me it is perfect and clear as a bell. The turrets do not have a stop but the clicks are VERY strong so there is no mistake. No need of moving clicks with a coin the turret does the turning by hand. Very pleased!

the coin reference is to remove the security screw to allow turret dial to repositioned. I think you're probably right once you get up to 18 -24 power. but @ 10 I just can't do it. 16 just barely. Also, maybe its just me. Los ojo's no Bueno.

also the focus wheel is pretty close to being just right on the yardage! its just the reticle that I can't live with. if I were shooting a black bird, crow, black squirrel I would not be able to see the cross hairs.

Los ojo's no Bueno.

Hell bells man!...for a sec I thought you said "Los osos no buenos"...and I was like "what in hell do "bad bears" have to with scopes"...then I realized you said Ojo's (eyes) not Osos (bears)...chalk it up to bad eyes...

I sent mine back for no reason other than I just could not find a sweet spot for eye relief...the scope simply didn't fit me...but I was absolutely fine with everything else. If you want to try a a scope with a thick illumined reticle I tried the big FFP Hawke Sidewinder, but the turrets were really mushy feeling and the reticle was too thick at higher mags, might be fine for people who like a thick reticle.

Keyman,

I was in the same shoes as you brother, i was gonna pick up a Diamond back tactical in the highest magnification they offered on it but....."the reticle" it is very fine. I plant to shoot from 50 - 100 yards and plink at 30yards and i knew i would have problems with the reticle at those distances. It is FFP so at lower magnifications its hard to see the reticle but at high power, depending on what you are shooting it real good. This is considered a long range scope, its being used on sniper rifles out to 1000 yards and more.

One Vortex you should look at is the " Vortex Strike Eagle " its in SFP and is also illuminated, the reticle is large enough for PCP shooting out to even 300 yards. Hope this helps

I just bought two scopes the Vortex FFP and a Nikon Black. I'm returning the Vortex. Couple reasons. The FFP reticle is practically useless at anything under 10 power and not really all that good until you get at 16 (I bought the 4 to 16). The optics are OK. I think the Nikon is MUCH clear and the other thing is the eye relieve (exit pupil) is better on the Nikon. With the Vortex I struggled to get "lined up" behind the scope.

I'm returning the vortex and buying another Nikon Black 1000. And yes it's more money. I was not comparing exactly apples to apples but that's almost impossible to do.

I'd just suggest at least looking at the Nikon scope if you have the opportunity. Scopes across the board have improved significantly in the last several years. All good just which one do you like the best. I was kinda hoping I'd like the FFP reticle but that's not going to work for me.

Interesting that others have pretty much the same opinion. Rather surprised I wasn't only person to pick up on the eye relief. That really was my biggest complain. I'm going to use the scope at least some on a powder burner and that eye relieve is important for obvious reasons but also it makes spotting your shots difficult if it's not right.
