Diana Diana 34 mystery (to me) screw

Hello folks,
I’m new to air rifles, or any rifles really. I have a used Diana 34 and I have no idea what this screw does on the scope rail or what it’s for. Can anyone help.

No mystery.. it's a rws added thing that a Diana don't have .. I think it was intended as a scope stop but just was a fail in that ..lol. So there you are ... Just don't use it for a scope stop and it's just there ...

It is only a plug that fills a threaded hole for a long ago used sight. Don't use it as a scope stop, it will shear off, was never intended to be one.

Jccams thanks for that. I remember it, but had no use for that. I use a ringset with the stop pin in the lower portion Be Well, Bandito.

I wonder if it would work as a stop for a peep sight? Those are much lighter than a scope, but can still move on a hard shooter like the 34.

possibly make a scope stop from a hardened steel screw @ hardware store ?

It's not worth the risk, because this screw is made of poop metal.In addition, the OEM peep sight does not become correct with this screw, I tried, nothing worked.The iris will be far from the eye.

I'm not sure which OEM sight you are referring to, but that's probably correct for a heavy diopter match sight. I was thinking more like a light Williams sport peep - which use a bigger eyepiece opening, and sit farther forward to open up the view of the area around the target.

On the other hand...if correctly mounted, the Williams units usually stand up to recoil pretty well on their own, with no need for a separate stop. So I guess I still don't really know what the screw is for!

That screw was put there specifically to mess with people trying to figure it out ! that is the only possible explanation .
