Diana 430l or tuned rws34 or something else??

Trying to decide between a motorhead tuned rws 34 with vortex kit for sale used on here, or one of the diana 430L underlever that are on sale cheap on AOA. Will mainly be some backyard plinking and pest control and my buddy and I hunt pigeons on a small farm with shotguns so would also be using this for in barns/silos and for knocking off some spares and starlings. I also enjoy air gun hunting squirrels.

I have about $350max to spend on a gun, scope and mounts, I could stretch to 350 for just a gun if it had open sights so I could add scope later. Anything else I should be looking at like hw50s or something?

Opinions?

Well if a Model 34 is muzzle heavy then the 430L will be even more so because it is an underlever. The M34 is a lighter rifle than the 430. That's a good thing in a plinker/hunter for sure. It is also the same form factor as the 460 and I know for sure that rifle is muzzle heavy. Now, personally I like that when I am shooting from a rest... so...

If you can get a good price on that Model 34 AND it has an optic on it you could do much worse. If you go with the 430L you are going to want an optic and rings, that's going to add to the cost of that rifle. That isn't to say it's an easy choice.

Well that makes it pretty even. Frankly I'd go with the 430L because it is a nicer rifle. That rifle was originally listed for more than $300. Seems like it was around $400. The model 34 wouldn't have that value even with the tune. Mind you it will probably out shoot the 430L at first but after you have the 430L shot in you will have a very nice rifle there. At that point if you want you can do a tune yourself. Don't skimp on the optic. I would highly recommend that you look at a fixed power SWFA. They run $300 and you are *never* going to see a better deal when it comes to quality for your money.

Caution: You mentioned "under powered" and if power is your concern you might as well forget the 430L because it is a 12FPE rifle by design. An untuned Model 34 will usually deliver around14-15 FPE in 0.177 and 14-16 FPE in .22. If you are wanting a mid-power rifle then either go with that tuned M34 (find out if it was tuned down in power though, many are). It will have iron sights with it and you will be able to use those till you can save up some cash to get a better scope. A well tuned rifle is going to want an optic or a quality aperature sight. You could do a lot worse than a stock Model 34. Comes with sights and after break in and finding the right pellet most of them will pass the ten dimes challenge. Well, I have never heard of one that couldn't be made to shoot that good without tuning them.

So ... Strongly recommend that route to you ... but it is your money and you know better exactly what you want than any of us will.

430L is a low price airgun from Daina,

If you wants best spring airgun for fair price HW50s or HW95 is the best choice.

In the end I did order a HW50s. My buddy who was interested in having an airgun too bought the diana 430l on Sale. So I'll get to compare them shortly when they are both deliverered. The 430L was previously retailing for nearly what the hw50s does and has some really good reviews, and the inherent accuracy of a fixed barrel under lever. Interested to see how they match up for accuracy
