Did an air gun do this to my double glazed window? Note: no pellets or bullets found inside or out. No damage to the inner glazing unit.

At what would be the maximum range that a sub 12 gun could do that? Do you live on a street where it could have been a drive by shooting?
No, there is only a pedestrian access way behind this window. It’s generally very quiet. No cars can actually go down here. I think it might be a kid living in the next block stationed at their bedroom window in the middle of the night. It’s sad, we have only been living here for a few months.

Don’t rule out a small rock from a lawnmower, my neighbor was cutting his grass with his riding mower and had his blades on when he went across his parking lot and sent a small piece of gravel my way, I was in my bedroom at the time when it happened, I was sleeping from night shift and a loud bang woke me up, needless to say he had to pay for my window and the hole was very small like yours.. good thing I was in the room when it happened

If you can't find the thing that did the damage, it would seem unlikely to be a pellet. Have you vacuumed since the accident? If it was a lead pellet or slug, there is a chance it broke into pieces on impact. Given the state of the inner window pane, the shrapnel wouldn't have gone far. That said, as has been mentioned, that could be damage from a thrown rock, hail, or even a blowdart. The damage could also have easily been done by a short .22 round, i.e. from a small gun.

Is there any shrapnel between the window panes? I would imagine there would have to be some there, if the projectile was made of lead.
