Did I buy the Wrong Compressor?

My first PCP was an FWB P8X. When I bought that pistol I also purchased a Hill multi-stage hand pump. That combo worked fine at first. When I started acquiring rifles with higher volume cylinders it seemed like a good time to get a powered compressor. I ended up getting the Hill EC-3000. The compressor works fine but it was kind of pricey and it is quite heavy, loud and it vibrates quite a bit. Those are really it's better negatives. The bigger issues are that it is not rated to fill tanks and has a somewhat limited fill pressure. While it's still plenty to fill my larger rifle cylinders up to 250 bar, I'm sort of disappointed that it couldn't (or shouldn't) fill a CF tank and just can't fill some of the larger bore rifles requiring higher pressures -not that I have either one (yet). I would like to get something with those capabilities that is also lighter weight and that can be run in the field from a 12V source. The ones that come up most frequently so far in my searches are the Yong Heng Portable and the GX CS4. Are either of these better for occasional use or is there something better out there? I'm an infrequent shooter so I don't want something that's going to require frequent maintenance or go bad just sitting for a month or two at a time. Given that use case, is the EC-3000 even the right compressor to have?

I bought a relabeled Coltri called Day state. It was designed as a scuba compressor but redesigned with minor mods to do 4,500 psi. It works well but noisy. I had to put a soaker pad under it as it seeps a small bit of oil. Eventually there is a drip and the fan scatters it. I repurposed a piece of oil soaker from the vertical mill and no more problem. I still like my Hill hand pump for the small air tube on PCP plinker pistols. The Coltri was expensive but I find Chinese compressors REPULSIVE. Be Well and Good Luck. B.

I have a Hill EC3000 and a GX Pumps CS4. The Hill is louder and vibrates more, but as you point out, it is limited in its fill capacity and ability to fill tanks. The CS4 is slower, but will fill to 5800 psi and is capable of fill large tanks. They actually complement each other. I use the CS4 to fill my Hubens, 90CU tank and airguns with larger CF tanks. I use the Hill to fill the rest because it fills them faster. It you get the CS4 sold direct from GX Pumps, it has a separate Power Supply, so it's lighter than the models with the integrated Power Supply. Also, unlike the YH, it's fully self contained so you don't have to mess with a a separate water pump and 5 gallon water bucket. The YH also does not run from a Battery where the CS4 will. I don't consider the YH or the Hill portable, but the CS4 is.

I'm like @FLgunner in that I have a Hill 3000 and a Coltri/Daystate. I use them both! The Hill fills guns up quickly and the Coltri fills up the tanks. I have taken the Hill out to the field with me but not the Coltri - it's a bit too much to haul around. You could top off a tank with the Hill but I would not do it on a regular basis. And neither of my pumps will fill my Hubens to capacity! I have a hand pump for that! LOL

A most enlightening look at the Hill EC-3000 was completed by Biohazardman, a member knowledgeable on HPA compressors. Upper right corner of page, search, "Hill EC-3000," using, "Biohazardman" in "Member" block, you'll see what I mean. WM

Too bad I didn't see that before I bought mine. Oops! It works for my purposes for now. Being a little more portable and able to run off of 12V are my main interests for a second compressor. It sounds like the CS4 might be a decent option. I wonder if anybody has done a teardown on one yet.

I just set up my CS4, and really like it. It’s quiet and I like the fact that I’ll never (never say never) need it’s ability to pump to 5800 psi, so pumping up my guns and tank shouldn’t be an issue with 4500 psi. I originally bought the CS1, and it’s a great little unit, definitely more portable than the 4, but not able to fill a tank. It was about $550 on Amazon, so not a bank breaker.

There are some youtubes by Target Forge on the GX compressors. He evidently bought the CS2 first but I am pretty sure there is at least one video on the CS4. He carries parts for them.

From what I see reported by others, your Hill would fill at least a smallish bottle but may take a cool down or two to complete it. Might still take less time than the CS4. The GX line looks like a good option for the requirement you describe but their motors are really small so they are going to take awhile to fill even a gun. They can also run on a portable tool battery.

Thats good to know. I am getting ready to purchase and still evaluating. Dont want to spend a ton that is why I was looking at them. Thanks for the heads up!
It did fill a Prod 14 times, but not consecutively. They did send me a transformer, but that failed after a few fills.
Then just endless requests for videos of it not working. I wrote it off months ago.
