Did a little bit of reading and learned about these two. Can anyone explain the differences. I did find out that some, apparently not all of the 78G models have an adjustable trigger. I am interested in getting one as the would provide some practice compatible with my M 41 22LR.
Difference in S&W 78G and 79G

The early models had the adjustable trigger. But there also was a problem with some of the early models had very porous castings that caused problems with the seals. I don’t think that was the issue with many of them though.

Mine doesn’t have the adjustable Trigger but it is actually pretty good. I think it’s just well worn in.

Don't think any 78 or 79Gs came with wooden grips, all plastic. Wooden grips are aftermarket.

I own the 78 & 79g. They both came with the same plastic brown grips. Never heard of a 78g that came with wood grips. Would be nice if they did so I wouldn’t have had to shell out $65 for a pair

I now have a78G on the way should have it Thursday. Stay tuned for my 7 yard. Range report, that as far as I can go in the basement.
