Difference in Scope Rings?

You might be wondering, where is that quality? Alignment is one key point. If the rings are not aligned you might be bending your scope when tightening in.

Also the thread of the screws, I've seen cheap rings that are like disposable, after first use they will not tight again.

So yes, it's important to have quality rings.

Expensive don't equal to good. There are some good ones in around $50

You pay for better and more precise machining and the best in materials in the higher grade rings. I am usually in the $40-$80 with a couple in the $120 price range for a set of rings. I see no reason to spend more myself as I am not out in the wild or in firefights where my life depends on them. If I were I would buy the best.

UTG makes some fairly decent inexpensive mounts and some better made in USA units as well. I have not had a problem with any of them.

Besides the UTG I use some Warn rings these days as they are a local company and make decent products at reasonable prices.

Most of the rings both inexpensive and even the more expensive units are aluminum with a few nice steel ones mixed in there.

Pot metal/zinc rings are nearly non-existent these days although I did manage to find a pair some years back made by one of the big companies. Just as dizzums said they were garbage so I never even put them on my gun.

Not necessarily, I have some nice utg Weaver rings that have four screw caps that are inexpensive that I covenant, they are lightweight and crazy true, my newest scope thought I should upgrade and bought their ProRings made in the USA, still only 60.00 bucks, mounted finger tightened ,lossened up and had to pop the new scope up out off the lower mount, and sh!!!t scratched the finish on the scope front and rear, made me sick because reviews said these were great.

If I had laped or even just sanded the edges it would have been fine, did so afterwards but was too late , damage done. Point is I've used lots of cheap but very good rings from utg, weaver, leapold and Hawk that have been very solid and true.

I have some $100.00 Burris one piece mount for sale now that is superb quality, extreem durability...so high price can but not always mean better, I hate BKL rings but aren't cheap
