Different gauge reading

Solution
Figure out how to incorporate a large Guage of quality in your setup.

When the gauge on my cs4 compressor reads 4350 psi the gauge on my avenge x reads around 3950 psi.
Is there a way to find out which one is correct?
That has been my experience in 15 years of filling pcp rifles. I have never had a rifle gauge that matched exactly with my tank gauge. i just use and trust the larger tank gauge and have never had a problem. The differences between the gun and tank gauges have always remained consistent on each of my rifles so I have learned to just roll with it.

Once you have a quality gauge on your set up it would be nice if at least one of the three gauges agree with the quality gauge. And there’s no guarantee the quality gauge is correct/accurate unless you really buy a laboratory quality gauge with traceability. But I don’t think that is warranted for an airgun. Consistency is what you are really after.
Once you have the three gauges online look at all three and write the pressures down. Do that five or six times after filing and see if all three repeat. You might find that you can confidently add or subtract a certain amount from the two original gauges to give a true reading.

the gauges on guns are usually pretty close if they arnt bent, you learn to spot it .. theres likely alittle pressure drop between pressor and gun to .. i never fill that freakin high anyway lol ..32 maybe ..chasing 'shot count' is just something i dont do anymore, then again i dont sit at a bench all day cranking thousands of pellets at paper lol

I fill tanks at our club shoot every Wednesday with a Bauer Junior. Usually 3 - 6 air tanks. We fill to 300 bar on the compressors gauge. Every tank has a different reading......below the Bauer, some more than others.
I also have a Omega Turbocharger at home and have the auto shutoff set to 4600 psi as that gets my tank and guns to 300 bar after some experimenting.

The small tank pressure gauge on my Brancato tank is as accurate as a weather forecaster. I bought an additional one that is much better. Not because I really need a tank pressure gauge since it’s easy to just put the stop plug in the Foster and open valve to see pressure on the line pressure gauge.

Some years back when I was diving I had six 300CF, 4,500 psi bank bottles in my garage. The guy I bought them from had a very precision gauge on it that had a very small capillary tube line connection. It was a mirrored scale so that there was no parallax error when reading it. I had a question about it so I called the manufacturer. I read off the model and serial number to the guy. He asked me “Can I ask where you got that gauge?” I asked why. He said that gauge was made specifically for U.S. submarines. I asked “Am I in trouble?”. He said No, just curious where you got it. I explained it came with my bank bottles I bought “from a guy”. Nobody in black suits or sunglasses talking into their wrist ever showed up. 😬

I’m sitting here struggling with the gauge thing again, and glad I found this thread. I have a hatsan 4500 psi guppy bottle and a GX 4 compressor. The gauge on the hatsan bottle is absurdly far off - at least 650 psi higher than my other gauges. My gx 4 and huben pistol agree that the hatsan gauge is inaccurate, but it still alarms me a bit to see the needle so far off for the hatsan. It will read well over 5000 psi if I actually fill it to 4500 (which I’ve never done). I would like to fill it to 4500 psi, of course, just to be able to carry a little more air in the tank but I’m unsure…. Your thoughts?

As suggested above, finding a neighbor/friend with a quality gauge might solve your dilemma.

Another idea, lacking that, is to swap gauges on the guns. If the gauge reading too high reads too high on the other gun (most likely) then that is the culprit. Should probably replace it.

In this case, the gauge on a guppy tank is off, but other gauges all agree. Just wish the gauge on the guppy tank read closer to the gx4.

I just moved to this area in the spring and so far I have not met anyone nearby who has anything to do with HP air, diving, airguns, etc..

There is a dive shop in Pittsfield - i will give them a call.

Ahh, sorry, I saw Hatsan, missed the guppy tank part, and assumed it was the rifle gauge.

I don't think you should have anything to worry about, personally. But agree with everyone else's advice on getting a high quality gauge for the tank. Should solve your woes.

I put the Saber Tactical valve/gauge/handle on my SCBA tank, love it, and the gauge is amazing. You might call PJ or Izzy tomorrow and see if they can sell you a stand-alone gauge. Their number is: 321-414-0417

But since you only need the gauge, here's another seller I have had success with:

Good luck!
