Difficulty Cleaning Cut Rifled Barrel when Shooting Slugs vs. Pellets

I have a cut-rifled barrel that shoots pellets and slugs with nearly the same accuracy. The pellets are shot at 875fps and the slugs at 845fps, both the same weight. My understanding is that slugs will lead up a barrel faster. My question is whether or not the cleaning process from shooting slugs is more intensive. For example, when shooting pellets, I just use a pull-through with patches and Ballistol. I never use a brush. Will this still work, or will I need to use a brush every now and then? Just curious...

I would think it is mainly a function of your barrel condition. With the velocities you state I really don't think you will experience much leading from the slugs. Do you have any idea how dirty the barrel gets from shooting slugs? Have you looked down the bore with a light and tried to determine the amount of leading? All my rifles, which are shot at similar velocities, are just cleaned with a good pull-through. Some may take a few more patches than others but I never use a bore brush.

I recently started trying out Balistol for cleaning my barrels. It did a nice job.
After seeing some strange pellets instability in a stable speed, i went to clean out the barrel.
I used the Balistol with 2 patches for a tight fit in the bore.
After a few, the patches were coming out clean ..no graphite or sparkle from lead
I wanted to see if my old cleaner(otis 085) might pull put any additional debris
The 1st patches i pulled through had plenty of lead on it ..repeated it 3 more times until there was no more sparkles of lead on the patch
Balistol is a nice cleaner, but it does not pull out the lead that well.
I think there might be better lead removers currently made.. The Otis is just what i had.
this is just what i have observed when using the product

And it keeps my cut-rifle barrel RAW clean..you are the 4th i know of with a CR barrel from Martin(y)

That's an interesting point about Ballistol not removing all of the lead. I might have to try something else. I would want the other product to be safe for seals/o-rings though. I need to do some research on alternate cleaners...

Actually, I couldn't get a cut rifled barrel from Martin or AF/RAW. I had to order it directly from LW, and Scott (Motorhead) machined it for me. This rifle was a turd and now it's a gem!

with a good one of my barrels I can shoot a few hundred slugs and this is in the 929 fps and no accuracy issues , and if i rup a patch or a pull threw very little on barrel , So at 845fps I bet 500 slugs would have no lead .im my hi powered guns shooting long range guns (6,5 creedmoore ) after I clean and take 10 shots I get over 200 shots perfect accuracy as well , then clean and season , I own prob 18 pcp guns , all my guns barrels some never degrade accuracy only one slug gun I own in 30 caliber I have to clean that one like every 100 shots , I am sure if I pop it on lathe and polish and clean up breech and recrown it would be like all my others , but I dont shoot much .30 cal here as only ,22 legal to hunt in CT
