The weather was unusually nice for mid August in MD, with low humidity, with temps starting at 67° and climbing to only 74° at the match end. Winds were variable blowing consistently to the right, and for the long targets there were lots of misses on one side of the face plate for those who did not adjust their aim point. The tree canopy was still full and some targets were dark and hard to see.
Fourteen shooters competed in the 60-shot match, with one off hand and one kneeling lane. The average course difficulty was 29.6 T, with 10 shots > 40 yards; two 3/8” targets and three 0.5” targets. The target sizes followed AFTA club rules and not the more relaxed GP rules, with four 1.25” kill zones at 48-55 yards, but plenty of shooters in both PCP and Poston knocked down these challenging targets.
The mix of different Divisions varies a lot from match to match with the Open Division the most popular. Brian VanLiew continued his now well-established record as the match leader, but dropped five shots, confirming this was a tough course. Mark King took the lead in WFTF and Greg White was the top shooter in Hunter.
The next match at DIFTA is Sunday September 10. See you then!
