DIFTA Match Report Saturday, August 20, 2022
Seven shooters turned out for a 60-shot match, with one off hand and one kneeling lane. The weather started off in the high 70’s and ended in the low 80s. There were no clouds, but a couple of lanes were heavily shaded by the tree canopy. Once again and unusually for DIFTA the air was still for most of the match with some intermittent variable light gusts. I never had to adjust for windage throughout the match.
The average course difficulty was 29.8 with one 44 and an additional four targets of 40 and above. A couple of the forced position shots looked terrifying, but as noted in the scores below Brian VanLiew was not fazed and took the match high score, missing only three targets, with the rest of the field trailing far behind. It’s great to have elite shooters at a match because it provides a reality check that the course is not impossible; the rest of us need to practice more.
In addition to Brian’s rare FX 400 FT there were some other interesting rifles in use, including Antoni Kleczek’s Mac1 USFT; Tae Chung’s brand new Daystate Huntsman Revere in a classic walnut stock; and Richard Bassett’s Air Arms EV2 Mk IV in a white stock.
Mayer acted as match Director.
The next match at DIFTA is Sunday September 11.
