Discovery ED Scope for Hunter Class Field Target?

I have a 6-24 and a 8-32 Discovery H and use the 8-32 set at 16x for hunter field target on my TX200. It ranges as well as my Hawke Airmax and most other 16x scopes. After 40 yards, l have never found a 16x scope that ranges well after 40 yards and l've tried a lot of different scopes. Don

Is the ranging pretty snappy when under 40 yds?

I just finished sighting in and re-marking my side wheel on my discovery VTZ 4-16. It seems to be accurate enough to focus within 3 yds up to 40 yds. between 40 and 50 yds it gets a little vague. I have to guess a little at 50 yds. of course that is ranging @16X. I re-marked the AO because I'm a little OCD, but the original 25 yd mark on the side wheel was 27 yds actual, so it wasn't that far off. I'm pleasantly surprised I can range at all with a $120 scope.

One thing on mine, the AO is supposed to go down to 10 yds and it doesn't. The lowest mine will focus crisply is 14 yds. I can still make the 10 yd shots if i roll it back to 12x, but it's not sharp. I shoot bench rest a lot, but HFT is something new for me. I'll see how it works in competition this Sunday 10/20/2019.

Just a quick update on my VTZ 4-16. I shot a better than expected score and ranging with the VTZ was better than expected. It's obviously not going to compete with the open class Sightrons, But it did well enough that I may buy another for my other rifle. I shot 26 out of a possible 80 while having missed 2 easy 14 yard targets that I rushed. I also hit 2 "bonus lane" targets that were too small to be legal for competition. They were basically the size of a dime at all distances. Can't blame any of my equipment though.
