Discovery shot count

I bought a Disco and am only getting about 12 shots by the time the pressure is down to 1000. So I looked on AOA and saw 2 different ways of regulating the pressure down. One looks like you could do it on your own and the other is a nifty looking speed dial. I either have to get the shot count up to 30ish or get something else. My rifle is .22 caliber and if I can shoot about 12-14 fpe I'd be plenty happy with it. So, is the speed dial worth spending $75 on?

"22junkie"So, is the speed dial worth spending $75 on?

Seems like a LOT to remember when you are shooting, turn it, shoot, did I turn it? do I need to turn it again? When do I need to turn it again? and also while remembering what your hold overs and hold unders are. Doesn't sound like fun to me.

I would get one of the older Disco springs. My (older) Disco is shooting 30 shots at about 23FPE. Can turn it up to (IIRC) about 28FPE for like 23 shots

You likely have a newer Discovery. They have a stiffer spring in them than the older versions. My .22 Discovery gets 30 shots at approx 19.5 FPE (tuned it down for Field Target regulations) . You can order a Crosman Challenger power adjuster (easy to replace the cap on the air tube with the power adjuster.) Order a new Discovery spring and clip 1 coil at a time off until you can adjust the power from coil bind to what you want. Cheap enough to do. Hope this helps. If you need part numbers I can help.

ps on my Challenger power adjuster, I just spit a piece of rubber fuel hose and cut it to the correct length, placing it over the power adjuster screw so that I can instantly get back to below 20 FPE when I'm shooting FT.

Take the hammer spring to a local hardware store like ACE that has a spring assortment. Find a similar diameter spring and approximately the same length that is easier to compress with your fingers. Springs are cheap. If unsure of a spring, buy an assortment and try them. You should easily find a spring putting your velocity in the 750 fps range and giving you 25 to 35 shots depending on the spring. My first two Discos responded well that way and the current Disco I have and my Son's have also.

Disco is a great airgun. Even though I have a .25 Marauder that I shoot most of the time, I still find myself pulling the Disco out very often.

If you are a little handy and can use a drill I would get a Robert Lane regulator. I have installed 2 of them in Discos. Mine and my friends Disco's get over 60 on point of aim shots! With the original springs....More if you use a lighter spring.

It is a simple install without any special tools. The regulator comes with grease, drill bit for vent hole, and extra o rings in case you mess one up. Full instructions are included as well as referance to You Tube video to show you how...great product. Try You Tube and search Lane regulator in a Benjamin Maruder to see how easy it is. You can keep the air guage or not, I removed mine as I trust the one on my tank to allow for more shots

I am presently having a custom reg made for my older Brocock Aim X pistol. Just Google Robert Lane regulators....
