Slugs? Pellets?

.22 with pellets I keep it 75 and under. You want the rifle to be accurate but also carry enough energy for a humane kill.

With slugs.. especially heavy ones at speed... Your skill could be the limit. A 40g slug you could still be carrying about 20fpe.. plenty to knock a prairie dog or rabbit down for the count

with an air rifle , 40 yards max 20 yards is better , don't want to slog through 300 feet of brambles to pick up a Squirrel .

40 yards or less hunting. Field target competitions have targets out to 55 yards. A few years of shooting them is all the proof I need that I don't have the skills to reliably hunt that far.

My AEA HP Carbine is a 'no miss' gun at 25-30y, being a semi auto, I get instant follow up shots as well.

For up to 100y, my AEA Varmint has plenty of power to deliver plenty of FPE at distance.

'like to' ...25, 30 is ideal, theyre out of spook range and time to zero in on them .. theres no surviving that lol ... full energy and dead nuts impact point lol .. if i have to and got time to set up i can usually pick something off across the street by the fence at about 80 ...
