DIY Plinking Ideas

Looking for ideas to build a cheap plinking target for the back yard. I want to make something but looking for ideas. I want it to spin and make sound. I would like to set a few in the woods and would shoot it from about 50ft - 75ft away.

  • I've got soda bottles with water but real
  • beer cans
  • targets

all you need is a few posts and some eggs to lay on top of them ... nothing like it lol ... if you got chickens your in business .. something else that works good are circular saw blades they come in all sizes and ebay has um cheap .. trick is drill them in two spots so the dont twirl and hang them as free as possible with wire, theyll really sound off if you get it right ..

Someone had a great idea for the heavy plastic 6 pack packaging they have in the PNW. You can nail them to a log and they will hold 6 cans in place to try to knock loose. I recently moved to the East Coast and haven’t seen any of these around.

Anyone tried Thermite? Does a PCP have enough power to make it explode?

We use cheese balls on golf tees. Paint balls make a mess. Cheap bags of lolly Pops, Smarties, Neco wafers.
Ryobi makes a battery powered glue gun. I think the cheese balls are the best, because in between, you
have a snack....

carry on.

It is usually too windy for cheese balls, I never thought of hot glueing them.....

Thermite needs something extremely hot to ignite it, and I wouldn't suggest playing with it unless you know what you are doing.

Now if you are talking about tannerite, then no a pcp won't have the power to set it off.

Agree with posting #4

Spoons as spinners.

Get those thick spoons at garage sales...or thrift stores or free at Craigslist (avoid those wimpy thin ones as they don't hold their shape too well after been shot). Might be able to modify the wimpy thin ones with drilling a hole to install a more robust bolt/washer/nut.

bend the handle around a screw

Hacksaw/ grind the spoon to a smaller size for a more challenging target.

That is an awsome idea. How do you keep it from sliding down? I se what looks like you peeled part of the screw to prevent the spoon from sliding. Do tell please. This is an awesome idea.

Ebay has some cheap plinking steel spinners. The spoon one or similar on ebay is about $10 this idea brilliant cost you more on gas to go to the good will store that the spoon and screw itself.

The above photo was copied from a google search. (I didn't even look closely) but it looks like something is there to prevent sliding...No idea how.

All this can be free if you stretch your imagination to find free stuff. No need to spend $10 on eBay or drive to goodwill stores. Craigslist is a good place to start...might just get lucky and find free utensils...even a butter knife...could be made into a spinner. Curl up the blade around the screw and grind the handle to shape.

It doesn't even need to be a screw...just use a nail..and tape on one side to keep the spoon/ butter knife in place.

Found this on Craigslist ...don't know how far from you...I'm sure you can see some reactive targets there. or trade that for some utensils.
