Do I Really Want a Wildcat?

Have a FX Royale and an Impact (sent in for pro repair service) plus a Benjamin Woods Walker. The Walker is a pistol fitted with a carbine stock. I saw it used in a video shooting rats at a dairy farm. I love that little gun. It's light. Easy to load and solid accurate at 25yds. I suspect, but haven't tried it yet, it'll be just fine at 50yds. Farther than that I don' know.
I am looking for something thats similar to the Woods Walker, fairly light and easy to handle but has a little more capability to reach out to 100yds. Obviously both the Impact and the Royale will do that but they are a bit heavy and bulky...for a senior citizen.
Would the bulk, comfort level, and less weight of the Wildcat be enough of an improvement to justify getting one? If they made a Woods Walker in .25 with a larger air reservoir I'd probably buy it forthwith.
It's my only hobby so $$ aren't a major issue. I just want to avoid greed and bad choice.

Check out the Edgun Leshiy. I’m thinking of either the Leshiy or Leila in .177. My othe gun (PCP) is a Cricket Mini in .22 (crazy accurate) but I’m looking at very light and backpack friendly.
Oh, was forgetting. My other other gun is a Taipan Veteran. It may fit your bill too. Very short, quiet, accurate as all get out.

Jim81,

I'm a senior citizen with a bad back to boot and I'm looking for something longer range and more powerful than my FX Wildcat .22. I was seriously considering an FX Impact .30, but you say you think yours is heavy and bulky. Maybe I should listen to you.

I'm currently using a hot rod AirForce Condor .25 for coyotes (90FPE), but it's a bit too long and heavy to carry around, so I bag it up on a bench and lure the coyotes to me with bait. It works very well. I know I can do the same with an Impact, plus I could carry it around too. But you suggest that maybe it will be too heavy.

I was seriously considering an FX Wildcat in .25 because they're less expensive and less complicated and less troublesome than an Impact. But I don't think it has quite enough power to take coyotes at 50 yards (45FPE). I thought a .30 caliber Impact (70FPE) would be just the ticket for me. Maybe not?

One thing is sure, the weight of an FX Impact is much closer to the body than is the much longer Condor. Even if the Impact was just as heavy as my Condor, it would be much easier for me because it's shorter and it's center of gravity is much closer and less of a strain on my back.

But if it too is too heavy and bulky, maybe I better get a Wildcat .25 instead.

Or just maybe I better be satisfied with what I already have and continue to use my hot rod Condor on the bench for coyotes. I've been very successful so far.

This is an interesting conversation. I really think a lot of us seniors are wanting nice light carry guns. I finally bought a Brocock Contour .22. perfect size weight to carry around easy to bring up, accurate but low on power I know what the Brits feel. I think a HP .25 that carries easy would be a great seller. Magazine capacity is really not an issue, seems 6 shots would keep dimensions small. My Streamline is powerful an accurate but not nearly "handy enough". I keep waiting.

Maybe the new Wildcat.25 Compact will fit the bill for you guys. I think it depends on your needs, but will they be better suited with a PB? .223 or .22 magnum? The bigger the cal in air, the bigger/heavier the gun in most cases.
Check out the Taipans in .25 or a power tunned Cricket. There’s a power tunned Edgun as well. Evanix makes the Rex I think, don’t know how good they are, but seem small framed and available in higher cals.

Intenseaty22 you and I are thinking the same thing. I've got my eye out for a 177 Lelya 2.0 for this summer.

"intenseaty22"Oh, man! You will have to post a review on it. Pictures, groups, etc. I’m thinking Leshiy, but I’m in no hurry, so may wait to see if Ed pulls a rabbit out of his hat with a MarkIII.
Waiting to see what Piter says about the new scope, that looks like a match made in heaven.
I'll be giving it the royal treatment - pictures, groups, etc. for sure. The only other gun that has my eye for the year is possibly a synthetic FX Crown in .25 cal. Will be selling for $1599 this summer as well.

i got the mk1 WILDCAT and love it, its a great rig light enough to walk with ,but its the way it shoulders and and balances thats got me loving it , this is the sux part of air gunning almost everything is done through inter web sales, no place to go to touch feel look at shoulder the hole bit,, to see if its to your liking, you wont go wrong with the new wildcat mk2 which is lighter smaller and comes with a pic rail good luck plenty of good lightweight AG to choose from how about the TAIPAN compact shorty another good choice HYNZIE

I have an FX Wildcat mkl and love it, I also have the woods Walker and enjoy it but honestly don't like to shoot it past 30 yds in hunting situations. The wildcat on the other hand is very capable at 100 yards, I have kills out to 109 yds. It is very light and compact I think the mkll compact would fit your needs nicely. Good luck and let us know what you choose.
