Do squirrels release fear juice?

What’s your furthest safe shot in your yard?

I only shoot 12-14 yards bc that’s as far as I can get my cameras to connect to wifi and alert me

I don’t know that I want to go so far as to call squirrels stupid, but where there is a source of food, they are perfectly happy to watch an acquaintance take a pellet to the brain and flop around on the ground, then promptly move in to feed.

Have observed it many times myself and you will see it frequently on the Squirrel Hunter Channel on YouTube.

If they don’t see the threat, there is no threat. They dont seem to have the capacity to see another squirrel die near them as an imminent threat. At least so for gray squirrels.

Someone posted elsewhere that deer behaved similarly. The guy had set a bait station for deer (not legal in my state), right next to the remains of one he’d recently shot. He was curious whether they would avoid the bait.

NOPE. They came in to feed, seemingly oblivious to their dead pal’s body.

CA Ground squirrels will check out a fallen compadre..possibly taking a nibble or an entire snack..but they seem to not be overly concerned with a dead or dying buddy as long as there isn't too much noise or movement from you.

So your furthest, safe shots are 14 yards or can you shoot farther? Not asking about how far the cams alert you. Just your furthest, safe, shooting distance?

I think it would be from one end of my yard to the other so maybe 50-60yards? I have a giant arrow target that can absorb all pellets/slugs. It’s just super loud impact

A five gallon bucket filled 1/3 with rubber mulch with a backer to hold the mulch in place is a fairly quiet backstop.

I live in Central CA, ground squirrels here eat their dead buddy. . I don't think squirrels release fear juice, they're pests n have been hunted for years, they're smart . .

fear juice? haha ..if they do its sprayed all over my property hehe ..nah, i think alot of times if you notice them just disappear all of a sudden its because some jakas in the neighborhood put rat poison out in the open or something ..

He’s pissin’ his-self thats fear juice for certain.

I’ve often seen p-dawgs checking out (and eating) mangled remains of the very very recently deceased, allowing a "double" and sometimes a "triple" off the same mound.
Just a couple weeks ago as a matter of fact.
No telling what "them fur-bearing critters" will do (thanks Yosemite Sam )

Think you’re right. No signs of them at all. I do remember seeing one be totally sick a few days before they all dissappear
