I've always used them because they don't hinder performance. I can't say I've noticed a huge difference, but as stated above, a sunshade does offer another layer of protection for my optics.

Do sun shades really make a difference

This thread got me to pull the shade out that came with the Sidewinder. I never used one before but it definitely makes a difference depending on the angle of the sun. Facing into the sun and looking into a shaded area, it makes a very big difference. I'll probably leave it on now.

I have never seen one of those, but that is a great idea, considering how much some places charge. Thanks for sharing that.

I found them very helpful. Both tube and those honeycomb style ones. They do cut back on that glare if not totally eliminate it in some cases.

I added one to my FT rifle, and have noticed an improvement in some of the shots….Every shot counts, so, I think it’s worth it.

I put them on most of my long guns simply for looks. Without them they seem stubby, im not a compact scope fan unless it's a compact rifle. That being said, they definitely help if you're shooting into the trees for birds and squirrels and the sun is above and in front of you.

I can not say one way or the other, I tried them on and off . If there is a difference its not HUGE and I can not really tell.

It seems very scope dependent to me. My stubby Vector 6-24x suffers terribly from glare, and at only 12” in length I can help but think that’s contributing to the problem. I don’t see it in my other scopes nearly as much, but they are all at least a couple of inches longer.
