Do time-wasting post titles aggravate hell out of anyone else?

Life is just so hard you know.

These people that can't spell and don't do grammar and and probably don't even speak English they're just an enormous pain. ...

Oh by the way did you see the price of beef? I saw 18 bucks a pound for beef today in the grocery store. That is going to double over the next six months I expect.

...

But yeah it is it's just hard. I'm glad I don't have to worry about where my next meal is coming from...

of course by the third quarter next year I might be worrying about that... and all because some people just can't compose a proper subject line!

...

Maybe I should move to some place like Afghanistan or Bolivia you know where the kids go to bed hungry most evenings. Maybe I should move to some restful place where the nearest nurse practitioner is a a half-day ride by donkey and the only aircraft you ever hear are on a bombing run. It has to be easier there than being forced to read these poorly composed subjects and this horrible grammar.

;)

You gotta love the seriousness with which Americans (and the rest of the first world) prioritize the important things.

Edited for grammar and content on this damn phone, using this pathetically broken auto- completion technology, after a nice warm cup of coffee.

Good morning Viet-Nam!

Yes. It comes from people with poor communication skills. They assume everybody will read their post so do not put a content-specific subject.

I assume someone who isn't capable of producing an accurate subject isn't really capable of an interesting topic.

Wow,

Now that is really interesting! And, I think I know you from way back, when we used to shoot at the Chino range, riight?

I feel like contributing to this post, but I will refrain and keep it short. Lets just say I’m glad this topic was brought up, and there were a lot of folks that came out and supported the OP.

Those of you that know me thru PM’s know that some of you I have complimented on how you write. It tells me a lot about someone, how a sentence is put together.

I don’t know about some of you folks, but when I read a reply/post, I actually “speak it” like it was me doing the replying, and sometimes I feel like I’m talking with a mouth full of marbles coupled with a half bottle of Pedrone already in me.

Do I get irritated? No, I just shake my head, wondering about self pride and first impressions.....

"Edited for grammar and content on this damn phone, using this pathetically broken auto- completion technology,"

I use the term 'dysfunctional' OFTEN to describe technology. Because in my opinion and experience, "smart technology" is not just pathetically broken, but PATHOLOGICALLY dysfunctional. (Read that, "psychotic", "imbecilic", or "CRIMINALLY INSANE")

Respectfully,

Og

Basically meaningless, leading subject lines that require opening the email to see what is in it. I don't open them. If it is important enough they will contact me over messenger or some other means.

Hahaha. Every email my mother sends me, the subject is "hello". Drives me batty.

LOL! My mother uses the date as the subject line... even though all emails are already dated. She is 86, so I don't say anything and if you knew my mother, neither would YOU! (chuckle)

BTW, she was an English teacher... (ducking and running in case she reads this!)

I have read through this post with interest. I come to this forum to find knowledge to use in this air gun hobby. An advantage I see is the diversification of people. I have seen doctors, policemen, businessmen, writers, preachers. I see we have the working class that have life experience that is more valuable than a well written book. I like to ask questions thinking I can learn from others experiences and or mistakes. Some have saved me time and money. I find I don’t write my questions well sometimes. I have never spelled well and as I age I make more mistakes. It really doesn’t bother me a great deal because I keep in mind there are things I can do better than others and I know others have talents I don’t have. And I welcome their input! A post like this can only slow the sharing of information because some may be scared they may use the wrong word, or make a spelling error. I for one would like to see more traffic and participation on the forum.

Thanks to those that participate and for putting up with my inadequacies!

Well Said “sparky”!

I hope the readership improves their acceptance of minor issues in spelling, grammar, or lapses in title clarity, and accepts that not everyone feels need to write on a professional level for a hobbyist site. They forget that even some highly respected authors avail themselves of editors to clean up and adjust their work to make it more salable to the target audience. Besides the fact that english is not the first language of many readers and writers here, there are cultural and age differences that affect writing styles as well.

I used to be required to write many memo’s, technical reports, proposals, and reviews as a part of my job. It was a joyless, but necessary part of an other wise satisfying career. I found it took a long time to draft a page, and even more time to review and edit. I once read a book on memo writing, and an important phrase was “IF I HAD MORE TIME, I WOULD HAVER WRITTEN A SHORTER MEMO” , meaning its easy enough to whip out a drawn out note (like this one I’m writing), but more exquisite to say it perfectly in fewer well-selected words. Most times, there is little need to worry about skillful writing, so long as the point gets across.

I'm new here, and before I bought anything, I wanted to post questions with titles like the ones you're referring to, because when you don't know anything about airguns, and you start looking for the 'right' one, you're inundated with such plethora of options you quickly become overwhelmed and confused. Then throw in good/ bad reviews of said air gun products on websites and your 🤬... You don't know which way to go.

I did use the search topic, and the information I learned from helpful experts on this site helped me decide what I really wanted, and taught me a lot about the different kinds/ types of air guns before I finally made my decision. Thanks guys😁

Back to the original post, "Do time-wasting post titles aggravate the hell out of anyone else."

Yes, to me I find it very aggravating when people, for some reason, don't, or won't post the main topic info in the title. Just seems inconsiderate to me.
As far as spelling and grammar, I certainly have no right to complain about that. I make more than my fair share or errors on that front, but it's not intentional, careless sometimes, but not intended. As others have said, I frequently have to go back and edit after posting.

At this point in the evolution of this thread (some might say "devolution"), I feel compelled to make a few points.

In my original post, and all posts I've made both before and after, I purposely avoid(ed) criticizing anyone's spelling, grammar, writing or reading skills, or intelligence. Some of my closest friends are compromised in some or all of those areas; so I know, as you all should, that none of those things relate to human worth or character.

I was purposely very specific I'm my topic question and content comments; knowing full well I was probably opening a can of worms. So, WHY DO I DO THAT? (regularly)

Because nowadays most people get far too little intellectual stimulation, disagreement, discussion and debate are great intellectual stimulators, what tries to pass as "news" nowadays is neither news nor intellectually stimulating, YouTube, TicToc, and other social medias are intellectually counter-productive at best, intellectually corrosive more likely, political correctness is counter-productive bulls**t, the First Amendment still survives (so far, anyway), but will not survive atrophy if we don't exercise it (more), so I not only CAN ("do that"), but enjoy doing that.

During the course of this thread I have come to a clearer realization that I am a provocateur by nature: and that (particular) personality 'foible' is perhaps exacerbated by (current events) necessity. Some folks, correction, many folks might describe me, perhaps more accurately, not as a provocateur, but an A**HOLE! I won't contest that description; much less disagree. Nor will I hold it against anyone for feeling that way. Nor will I hesitate to defend myself against unwarranted attack(s) with quick counter-attack(s). Nor do I care who takes offense when I am forced to do so. I repeat, political correctness is bulls**t.

I find clumsy attacks not just easy to deftly parry, but in the clumsiest cases, almost feel guilty when I do. Key word, "almost". Example- a dyslexic literary critic. Some might find that example harder to understand than others will.

And as example of my unwarranted guilt feelings about parrying clumsy attacks, in this case I did so in a personal email, rather than on this public forum. Then only after repeated clumsy attacks (not everyone feels need to write on a professional level for a hobbyist site)... because I'm such a considerate Humanitarian!

I believe in this case, like often on this forum and elsewhere, especially in printed discussions, despite my purposefully-worded and narrowly-targeted original post meant to avoid misinterpretations, some readers did exactly that by misinterpreting my intents and/or misconstruing my motives. And though I'm sorry some did, only because it supports my opinion that some folks are hard-wired to imagine fault(s), motive(s), agenda(s), and boogey-men where none exist. And although I'm sorry some did, not enough to apologize!

That the majority of respondents found my post exactly what it was meant to be, 1) Worth their time opening because my post title made clear the content, and they were interested in the content, 2) Worth participating in because, 3) They found it entertainingly PROVOCATIVE, not only makes the whole exercise worthwhile, but renews my hope that Readers have not gone extinct... yet. My sincere hope is my post and this thread have in some way, and even if for a short time, delayed the (seemingly) inevitable. If so, it was not just worthwhile, but socially-redeeming despite the (A**HOLE!) origins.

To those that found my post not worth their time opening I'll ask, then why did you? And say my post and the ensuing thread obviously went right over your head(s).

To those that took offense, I'll take this opportunity to say...

GOOD!

Happy Shooting and READING Y'all,

Ron (aka "A H")

Well than, there's that.

Got to respect that level of honesty, carry on my friends.
