Do you ever get fed up with Airguns?

Why does it have to be one or the other?

I use...
The English and Metric systems.
Fly, spinning and bait fishing gear.
Wood long bows, compounds and crossbows.
Pistols, rifles and shotguns.
Airguns and powder burners.
...as the mood and requirements dictate.

Maybe I'm just fickle and just use the appropriate tool for the job. 🙂

Cheers!

DR, You said it right. People (most ) in shooting sports are great. In my travels throughout the country , I've almost always found great conversation at gun shops and shooting ranges .
1000% most people are great in the shooting sports and just love to shoot and talk about it. Great folks. There are a few in every shooting sport that can be difficult to deal with but usually are humbled by there results or lack of generally. Probably why they are so grumpy.

Totally agree nothing wrong with that. I have used all sorts of weapon choices for hunting and enjoyed all of them for their intended purpose. I think the problem people run into is trying do something with a particular gun/bow/air rifle that it's truly not intended for in the hunting world. I personally always use the appropriate tool for the job like you.

I would use...
The English and Metric systems. Even if i do say i should not cater to people choosing the obsolete system.
Just like if someone choose to walk all the time, i will not be forced to pick them up just CUZ they wave a thumb in the air.
Fly, spinning and bait fishing gear. ( fly fishing though is my favorite, only having no carp like fishing stuff )
Wood long bows, compounds and crossbows. ( not here but i think i would be a compound bow / X bow geek )
Pistols, rifles and shotguns. ( i wish )
Airguns and powder burners. ( i wish powder burners )
...as the mood and requirements dictate.

In 1960 under the Christmas tree, I opened a box that had inside a Dianna Model-50, I had a smile bigger than the grand canyon .
Last month when my Ghost Plus 22 arrived, I had a smile not as big, but you could see plenty off teeth.!!
Sure there are days when i can smack spinners at 100yds every time, and days i miss half, but air guns bring back great memories and help me shoot through the hard times.

Also along these lines, I have many hobbies and quite a few of them align or overlap, or one will have an affect on another, like building a gun rack for my hobby room/office using my woodworking hobby, or designing and printing a bracket or accessory for an air rifle using my 3D printer, and so on...

Airguns and powder burners will always have a role to play, depending on what I need to do, what I want to do, at the point in time I am doing it.
I can use airguns in places I cannot use my powder burners, and I can do things with my powder burners I cannot with my airguns.
For me, it allows me to shoot more, which might even on occasion help me to be better at it.

No, I do not get fed up with airguns, nor any of my other hobbies.
At times the focus will shift from one to the other for a while, depending on need, or sometimes just on mood.

That is what it truly about. My first gun was a single shot 410 and I still got it. My dad was a bullseye shooter so I grew up shooting pistols. My first serious pistol he got me was a S&W model 41 for matches(still got it). I dont do bullseye anymore competition wise but I still pull them out weekly and shoot them and just smile because it brings my dad back in my mind standing beside me and watching.

I agree the using a tool out of context is not a good thing.

Personally, I don't like to modify a tool to use it beyond its design extent. Airguns are "low power, short range weapons" and powder burners are "high power, longrange weapons". While there is some overlap each is best suited for its design purpose.

The understanding of "it's truly not intended for in the hunting world" may be different for people. For decades I successfully hunted deer with homemade 50# wood bows. My compound using friends thought I was nuts that I would hunt with such primitive equipment. Each to their own eh?

Per your thread title, yes, I do get frustrated with my equipment at times. That mood passes and I'm back at it - mostly because I'm too stubborn to admit that I can't beat the problem! 😁

As seen in the other posts, we can agree to disagree. Thank you for expressing your opinion and sharing your thoughts. You really stirred the pot!

Cheers!

I did do that but that's okay. I never made any selfbows or board bows but I was a traditional guy for archery. I did compounds when I was in my teens and early 20s but found out I love the simplicity of recurves and longbows. I love my zippers and black widows and 21st century long bows. I did have have a buddy build me a Bamboo backed longbow and it has harvested many whitetail. Like you said it perfectly fine to have differing opinions on things because we all base it on our personal experiences on that particular question. It's good to have healthy discussion on things because everyone learns something.

I do for sure but each realm has their challenges. PB guns need cleaning much more often and are a much messier PIA to do. Also center fire rifles you get a poi shifts like crazy depending on barrel and temp. Doesn’t seem to get talked about much but it’s a big deal only getting so many shots then stopping to let the barrel cool.

I don't shoot fast enough to experience that poi shift with mine(in my hunting guns)and I only clean my barrels when the accuracy starts to drop off. For most of my hunting guns I clean them well I really don't. I wipe them down maybe pull a mop through and put it up for next time. My competition guns get shoot a lot more and will clean them if the accuracy or action starts to get rough. With the 22lr guns for matches I will shoot until I get a carbon ring causing issues with accuracy. I usually clean those after 300-400 rounds so maybe every few matches or so.

I will probably keep 22 for playing and squirrels but I enjoy the powder burners a lot more. I just come from years of competitions with them and they are my preferred. I tried to get into air riflesafter covid and am still trying
I'm a lifer.
I started airgunning in my youth and have been consistently shooting them aswell as powder burners. I mostly shoot rimfire, and my Kidd 10/22 kit gun, can not even hang with the accuracy of my FX Crown.
With the airguns I shoot daily with not a whole lot more effort than watching TV. With the PB every two weeks from 8: to 3: a major part of a Saturday.
All the best drsquall 👍

I started shooting AIR a while ago . I shoot precision targets and pests . When i started i had 8 rifles (PB) and 34 pistols (PB) and two springers . Today i have two PB pistols and one rifle PB . Air guns = 20 springer rifles and 5 springer pistols , plus 5 PCP rifles and 4 PCP pistols . I am now thinking about selling the PCP's .
With a moderately powered springer i can kill pests up to and including coon's and Fox.

My Kidds shoot good at times. But no where near my Annie's and rem 40xs. I have yet to find any air rifle that shoots better than those 2 but I haven't tried all of them. lol. I have to be honest though I don't like shooting paper or benchrest it's not for me.

Nope...Not yet. Since 2002 when my modern era of airgunning began, I've experienced remarkable little trouble with my airguns, and great preformance without massive tuning. Won't say "NO" issues but nothing ever to aggravate me. Shoot more days than not and still have that "passion" to shoot that one hole group...again!
Just got
1000004030.jpg
another Veteran Mk1, have 3 now since 2018...still waiting for my first problem with them...AND my Bobcat AND my Wolverine AND several others....If and when problems arise will just be a part of the hobby, labor of love. When airgunning becomes a hassle or a job like bass boats did to me in the '90's
..see ya...But not gunna' be anytime soon...health permitting. Gotta' go now, want to shoot Veteran #3!

Yes, I love Air, but I drifted back to .22lr. NRL22 matches were fun, but I'm to old for those. I can't get up and down like the young guns.
Now I just shoot out back from 10yrds to 150yrds. Under cover!! As a kid my family shot a lot of .22 matches, so i guess i went full circle.
Air is for all my ratting and iguanas, .22 for fun.
I just bought my grandson his first .22 A CZ 457 Varminter. Dressed up n a MDT chassis, Timney trigger, Leupold scope, etc......
Here we go!!!
disclaimer.....my grandson is 5 months old.....i will break it in for him......
