Do you have a maintenance regime on your PCP FT rig?

Do you have a maintenance regime for your PCP FT rig? I have been going along dumb and happy with my Brocock Sniper without a hitch for about 3 years and other than a wipe down after a match to remove some dust and a very occasional barrel cleaning I have done nothing, subscribing to the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” rule!

Am I living on borrowed time or do I have a few more years before I need to worry about replacing orings and rebuilding the regulator?

O rings and regulators do always wear out. There is always a chance you’ll pull it out of the case and find no air.

Both of my comp guns have a fresh rebuild but if they didn’t the perhaps I’d send them out every five years during the offseason. They can go longer but five feels right if the goal is to maximize reliability.

I clean my barrel before every match balistol and a few dry patches.

I treat my good ones like an Aircraft. Annual disassembly and inspection with plans to replace any orings necessary and make sure everything is lubed up and clean any moisture staining.

Thinking the 5 years sounds reasonable, amazing how 5 years zooms by these days as I get older, so like dog years it only seems like 2. The annual complete breakdown interval that Scotay’s uses might be overkill for what I have experienced so far with my 3 pcps, but maybe checking for moisture damage is a good reason. I live in a very dry climate and use dive shop air, so haven’t been too worried about that.

But surely this discussion will jinx me and at my next FT match I will be on my very last lane with one shot to go to clean the course and an oring will fail! Still be a decent score though. I do keep a complete stock of replacement orings for my guns, but probably should pu a regulator rebuild kit to have on hand.

My method May be overkill, but there are many aircraft still flying around since the 1940s and on. An annual.inspection helps detect problem when they start, before failure. The short amount of time it takes to do so, aircraft take days and pcps just a few hours, i think the ones you are invested in deserve it. I am at a point now with my 2 airguns that it is hard for me to justify buying anything new, because there is just not enough there to justify the extra cost.

They say every airgun would most likely need a reseal every 3-5 years. Some get more mileage. When you get a leak, it would most likely be in your best interest to reseal the whole gun in lieu of just that one o ring. For the most part, they will deteriorate at the same rate throughout the gun.
