Do You Shoot At A "Range"?

I feel for people who jave to utilize a public range. Ive been lucky to grow up living in the rural areas where you can shoot whenever you want. The 2 time ive beeen invited to public ranges have had negative relults. One almost getting shot and the second deafened by gunshot. Its amazing how crappy and idiotic alot of humans are. Maybe the 2 times ive gome to a range i was unlucky but its enough to keep me away from them
With all that said if you are in my area and need a place to shoot let me know

Illegal to shoot in my yard, however I still do but not for extended periods, and the stress of it in my scenario isn't really worth it, juice is not worth the squeeze, both of my neighbors have several kids and even neighbor kids over playing more times than not if its nice out, would be rude to shoot even safely into a backstop when they're outside.

So I shoot mostly indoor, and rarely, because 11 yards isn't that fun... I don't go out of my way and day to shoot live things dead unless I am starving which I am not, but those are my circumstances and I don't hold anyone else to them.

Private ranges and national forests are too far of a drive, would be nearly an all day event just to shoot for a few hours for me, so convenience isn't there living in a suburban environment.

I live in a patio home community. Small houses with very small yards and neighbors close on both sides. It is against the law to shoot an Air Rifle in the city limits - and I am in the city limits. If in violation of the ordinance and convicted they confiscate the offending rifle and other punishments apply! I was so excited to be doing this that now I have serious doubts about continuing.

Probably not worth the risk, cool neighbors or not. Saying "its illegal in my city but my neighbors are okay with it so I still shoot" is like saying any illicit activity is okay as long as your neighbors are cool wit hit. Unless you have incredible stress management skills, it's just not worth dealing with. Downplaying the lethality of airguns is very naive especially within a group that should be very well educated on terminal energy and its potential.

At home. We used to be able to shoot firearms in the back, but new homes have ended that. We store roundbales for the horses in the front yard along the south fence. I use them as archery targets and safety catch when shooting airguns. In wintertime I shoot in the house. It is 28 feet from my front door to the kitchen cabinets. I keep a pellet trap in there next to the trash can.

I shoot at an indoor range occasionally. Sometimes it is for base line tuning purpose, but usually it is for the social interaction with like minded people.
Most of the time I shoot outdoors because I am blessed to live in a state with strong 2A leanings and an abundance of public lands. Then there is the 1,400.00 acre ranch my wife and I manage. I never lack for a place to shoot.
I won’t shoot in my backyard as my neighbors may or may not approve. Also had an incident a few years back with my hunting bow in the backyard where a defective arrow rest sent an arrow out of a 60# compound to parts unknown which killed any desire to shoot in my yard.

Maybe take your HW30 over to the permission property ( that said yes ,then no ,) and show the owner the gun (let him shoot it) Take a "plastic tub target" with you to prove the pellet will stop in the tub .

There is a hunting club about half an hour from home and I am going to try to talk to people that own and run that club. There are huge numbers of deer and black bear (wild turkey, fox, bobcat, and on and on but most hunters are after deer or bear) so it would not be safe during hunting season. That is not a good solution as half the year I would not go on that land. I don't know if they have a membership for "non hunters" but my choices are so few that I will investigate that possibility. If they do - well the cost will be part of the decision. Thanks for all the replies. I am envious of you that live and shoot on your own land!

Off topic but I looked at the North Carolina Wildlife Commission web site and in just eastern North Carolina they estimate there are about 11,000 black bear and that number is growing so they need to increase the number harvested by hunters! That's not somewhere I want to be!

Sounds like you need to take up bear hunting... Mostly no reason to fear black bear though, unless you see a cub, then quickly figure out where momma is and make sure you are not in between them. Most I have seen out in the woods flee as quick or quicker than a deer once they realize there is a person around.

I am new to Air Rifles with one rifle: HW30s. Before I bought this rifle I looked into places to shoot. About 40 miles from my home is the Holly Shelter Game Lands - thousands of acres of game lands in Eastern North Carolina. They have a "Shooting Range" there that's closed Monday and Tuesday and open the other five days a week with a person on site that manages the range. They have one pistol range and a bunch for rifles (not Air Rifles) set at 200 yards. It cost $13. / Day to shoot - whether you shoot for 10 minutes or eight hours it's $13. And I want to shoot at maximum distances of 50 yards so the rifle targets at 200 yards does not work for me.
Close to home are commercial indoor ranges that are designed for pistol shooting with emphasis on Concealed Carry classes and pistol sales - again not really ideal for my situation. I asked one land owner I know if I could shoot on his land and he said no problem - there is no range there but I could set up targets - but it's deer season until Jan 1, 2025, and not the safest place to be and yesterday he changed his mind and I can't shoot there. Where do you shoot: on your own land, on someone else's land with permission, at a Range "Club" where you pay a monthly fee, or at commercial indoor and/or outdoor Ranges? It's depressing to me! Anyone else face this dilemma?
Tar Heel Airgun Club , and Piedmont are in your area. Great people…check them out.

My own property, or part of it, is the airgun range. For PB shooting I go to a designated firearms range even though legally I can shoot those here also. I don't want to add that level of noise around us. Airguns are much quieter. We moved to rural property to have space away from neighbors--AND for its quietness.

The ability to safely and frequently shoot airguns right from home has been a huge benefit. With PB, the most I routinely practiced was twice a month. With airguns, it has varied from twice a week to daily, but usually 3 or 4 times a week. It makes a big difference in improving skills. Plus the proximity to "the range" means I can take advantage of a short window of good weather conditions on the spur of the moment.

I do wish there were a dedicated air rifle range with a covered place to shoot from and target stands at several distances.
