Do you trust your airline company?

Do you trust your airline company to get your favorite airgun to your designation?

I don’t. Especially United. They always lose my luggage 🧳 and cancel my flights...

If you don’t: explain why

If you do: explain with whom

Lieutenant,

I HATE flying, so I'll drive to wherever my competitions are in Field Target, within reason. I'm smack in the middle of NYC, so I have a small handful of Grand Prix matches to go to. I have driven to Ohio, North Carolina, Michigan, and Baton Rouge in the past, and will be going to NC again in a few weeks.

I don't trust ANY airline, particularly with setups like we have. I've heard of more than one horror story.

I do know, one time at a past world championship, Hector Medina didn't get his springer back when it was supposed to. I don't remember if it didn't get to wherever the WC's were that year, or if they lost it on the return trip.....we'll have to ask him..

Another time, when another US competitor went to the WC's, his case was opened up and inspected at some point. Upon retrieving his equipment from the airline, brought it back to where he was staying. He discovered that his March scope was cranked so hard in one direction on one of the turrets, he could not loosen it. He had to find a hardware store in whatever country it was, to buy a pair of pliers to free it. It wasn't damaged, so that is a testament for March scopes.

Tyler Patner lost his entire contents of his Field Target case, totalling well into the thousands. That was 2 years ago, never to be seen again.

I have no personal experience with flying with any of my rigs, and given the horror stories from other guys that travel, I never will. I'll drive everywhere I need to go, in the US. That option also gives me the chance to bring backup guns, and extra equipment. If I decide to go to an overseas World Championship in the future, I'll probably have no choice. But for the time being, I'll stick to driving, thank you.

Of course they lose the item that is cool and costs 5k, but not the socks and shoe bag. And we are supposed to believe it is by accident, which I am sure a good portion of the time it is, but then there is that percentage of time that it is stolen somewhere in the transportation. The only time I have lost luggage was specifically when a high value item was inside. I have zero trust in United because they always cancel my flights and then lose my luggage and I am stranded somewhere without new cloths - I would hate that to be a competition rifle.

Thanks for the stories/contribution

Lieutenant,

I believe that the items in that one case that Tyler had, were well over the number that I stated.......by a lot. But, in a competitor's eyes, think of the time it cost for the customization of said rig. And the time it took for setup. And the time it took for sighting in. And the time it took to practice with said rig. There's WAY more invested than the cost of the equipment lost........that's the sad part.....money can't replace the time and energy spent, getting all of that stuff perfect for the most important competition of a shooters life..... Thats why I most likely will never fly with my equipment, unless extremely necessary.

Thank you for bringing up this topic, because in a few months Covid willing, I plan to travel to USA in Spring and Chile in early summer. Or flipped I don’t know. One those trips I plan to take air rifles with me and I drag two air rifles for me, the Impact and maybe the Brocock or a future planned Taipan.

I mainly fly Delta because being from SE Idaho and so close to Salt Lake City it is the best airport for me to fly into from Europe. There are direct flights from Amsterdam to SLC. And for the most part I have never had a luggage issue with Delta, and I have flown them A LOT, but curious if anyone has flow with them with their air babies. If you have flown Delta with your babies have you had an issue?

Also, if you HAVE had an issue/s flying with your air guns, please let me know the airline. This won’t be the first time we have singled out a company for bad service.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he had 500-1000 hours of work into it. What a shame.
