Beeman Does anybody NOT not like .22 HW barrels?

Anybody out there NOT not like (i.e., LIKE) their HW .22 spring gun? Seems I've heard more complaints about loose fitting pellets and mediocre accuracy than accolades.

I haven't shot this Huntington Beach R1 in over a year. Had to remember how to hold it, lol. First group was not so good, second group was better, this third group was decent enough to post and maybe start a discussion with. Five shots in a 3/8 inch c.t.c. group at 23 yds. with a sixth "oops" shot. I know it can do better so may try again tomorrow. Problem is it isn't a hold one would use in the field.

Who can post pics of some great HW .22 spring gun groups for motivation? Gotta be a few tack drivers out there.

No issues at all, I must be lucky, I own 4 air rifles all 22 cal. two of them are a Hw50S and a Hw77 Stainless. I have read many posts about people complaining how loose the pellets fit and bad accuracy. My two are very accurate with no pellet fitting issues but I will say they are both more accurate shooting alloy over lead pellets.

Everyone has different experiences, for example just mention the Hw30 and everyone goes into raptures spruiking everything great about this rifle. Me on the other hand the Hw30 left a bad taste in my mouth, it was an inaccurate lemon that eventually broke. But on a positive note the gun shop replaced the lemon for the Hw50S. Happy days.

Yes, not a fan.
While I've only had experience with (5) .22 caliber Weihrauch's barrels, all of them but one performed worse than almost all of the many .177/.20 caliber guns I've shot. They weren't bad, but just lacked that additional 10% accuracy I was accustomed to :p.

Since I don't hunt , I've sold them all .............. ;)

The late Dr. Beeman advertised in his beautiful catalogs that the 177 & 20 caliber HW models had 12 grooved rifled barrels while the 22 caliber had 6. Even gave the 22 caliber the least accurate center-to-center rating. I think this is true. The 22 caliber was not ever a “target” intended caliber. Strictly a Hunting & Silhouette caliber. Pin point accuracy wasn’t the goal. Probably still a 6 grooved rifled barrel. I personally prefer the 22 caliber and shoot it more accurately than the 177. The extra pellet weight tames the behavior making the gun much more pleasant to shoot. It’s a fair trade off to me.

I'll admit that I've not quite been a fan of .22 in HW/Beeman spring guns. I've owned several. All seemed to be more pellet picky than I would like.
Had an R1 that gave me all kinds of fits and then a very odd HW97LK that would group GREAT with only one pellet. The odd thing is that one pellet happened to be RWS Hollow Point. I have pics somewhere, but it was an absolute LASER out to 50 yards with those RWS HP's. It was consistent with them and PCP like in its ease to shoot them, but for whatever reason it bothered me that THAT pellet was key and so I traded on a .177 action and never looked back.
The R1 was sold years ago and I do kind of miss it.

I agree with BoG. I have a HW95, HW35 and HW30 in .22. I do not shoot paper much so the .22 is great for my shooting. I shoot reactive targets from 40yds in, mine work great for that and the pellets are much easier for me to handle. If I can hit a 3/4" paintball at 25yds I'm good.

In my findings. Older .22 Hw barrels are more consistent. Even LW QUALITY HAS SLIPPED.

SNUG BARRELS ARE WHAT YOU WANT. I test every barrel I get with a pellet to bore fit. If they are snug going in the lead don’t mean it’s a good barrel.. Thats a poor lead. They should be smooth with some minor resistance all the way down and the choke not so tight that you have to wallop them out. Chokes are not needed always if you’ve got a great fitting barrel start to finish. Nothing worse than a tight lead that shrinks the skirt then loose barrel. Webley was famous for this. As well as Horrid .25 over sized bores. Overly tight chokes from dovetail sights crimping is not always good either. I’ve had some leads that needed help but it’s not for the faint as it’s a do it right or your pulling the barrel out the breech block for machining. Which I’ve done to many as it’s easier. I have taken many 500 mm barrels and used 12 good inches of the center section.

Springers are hard enough to shoot , why try to shoot with a bad Barrel.

Shot cycle .22 vs. .177 or .20 calibers:

Over the years, many people have mentioned how the .22 caliber is more forgiving?
I’ve always tuned my guns and never notice a caliber difference🤷🏻‍♂️.
Most every tune attempts about 90-95% max (platform) power, erroring on the side of a smooth/balanced shot cycle.

Where as a harsh shot cycle can be disruptive in any caliber.

Yeah I agree, It’s not the norm to see many people shooting/winning field target in .22 caliber.

No complaints, fit or performance with my .22 HW50 or the HW100 barrels.

Seem to remember that years ago Weihrauch had a brief (metallurgical) problem with some of the .22 caliber barrel blanks they received from a supplier but that was resolved before I bought my HW100 FAC FSB.

Cheers!
Had many HW rifles .22 and all were Great & Never pellet fussy ! Even Great accuracy with Crosman HP pellets !
