Does anyone shoot 10M pistol?

Hello everyone! Does anyone else shoot 10M pistol? I have gotten somewhat bored with the long gun thing (for now) and decided I needed a new challenge. I have found the pellets my pistol shoots best thus far: (RWS Match and the H+N Match Light a close second). I have to trim and whittle the grip down a bit for a more perfect hand/grip fit, and soon off to the new discipline. I will have to shift my shooting style and mechanics from my accustomed other pistol modalities, but it is all good, helping build new neural pathways. Hope to hear back from any others with current and past experience! Be Well and Be Safe everyone!

I shoot a Steyr LP2 Compact using RWS Meisterkugeln in either 7.0 or 8.2 grains. R-10 or H&N are good too, but more expensive and unnecessary. Sight alignment and follow through are most critical. This is a difficult sport to master, but worth the effort I started out with a lowly $50 Daisy 717, then a 747 with a LW barrel and better trigger. Desiring more, I got a FWB 80-good gun, then a Walther CP-3. I then moved and sold everything and years later bought a Steyr LP-10, but where I moved there were no matches so I sold it regretfully. A short time later, I found a good deal on a used Steyr LP2 which I still use. It's still fun and challenging despite my advancing age.

I just entered the world of 10M pistol. I bought a Match Guns MGH! and enjoy it very much.

I really sucked at first but am progressing quite nicely.

I have a couple of .177 pistols with red dot sights on them that I shoot two-handed in my 10m basement "range," a Zoraki Ultra and a Beeman P17. They are surprisingly accurate. I practiced a lot during Covid using ISSF 10m targets and got to where I thought I was doing OK.

But I then I got an IZH 46M (single stroke pneumatic, a match pistol that was state-of-the art about a quarter of a century ago) and started shooting one-handed with iron sights. It has been a thoroughly humbling experience. But I shoot that pistol far more often than the other two. I can't stop -- it is so challenging and so addictive.

To vary things I compete against myself. I'm right-handed and right eye dominant, so the right side gets the Izzy and the left hand and eye gets one of the pistols with a red dot. It's a bitter rivalry...

After the COVID interference the club in Bay Point, CA (Diablo) will start their 10M indoor matches again.

It is really only about 8 yards.

I shot the indoor down there twice but the bay area traffic (Friday nights) is a bit too much for me..

I have 10 yards in the garage, 17 inside the house and 18 in the yard.

So I can practice when I want too.

Air Pistol silly wet, too..🤪

Here are results of my initial 10M unsupported single hand shots. Ten shots per target using 5.5g alloy pellets that were generously provided by the air pistol vendor. At first the targets were not illuminated enough for me to have proper sight alignment and aim. After I shed some more light upon it my shots improved. When I took more time between shots and worked more on proper pistol-target presentation my shots also improved. This seems to be one discipline where time is on the shooters side. Clearly a long ways to go, but for first shots, I am pretty satisfied.

WHAT'S only 8 yards ?

Proper math says 10 meters is "almost" 11 yards. That's almost a three yard difference !

Jeeze guys,,,details matter..!

I use a CP-1M that I changed the rear sight on to a Daisy diopter without the insert. Started with R10s and then just used the QuianYang cheapys that PA were giving away for $5 a box at one time. Took about 2 months to go from a shotgun pattern to shooting close to the 130s. Being CO2 made it a spring/summer/fall endeavor. Finding an online competition to submit your targets to will 1) put you in touch with others who can help you with rules, technique, scoring, etc. and 2) help you maintain a record of your progress.

Mike-

It relies on the Orion targets, or an electronic target, for scoring. Of course, someone could cheat, I suppose. However, when they show up at a sanctioned match and score well below what they have been sending in to the Ace’s postal, everyone will know.

If using an electronic target, at home, one basically has 3 months to shoot a 60 shot match- for the best score.

I usually just pick a day, and shoot the match, then send in whatever my score was that day.

I would also add-

10 meter air pistol shooters are a small group of people, overall, and we all know what each other normally shoots/scores. You can look each match up by the name of the competitor, on the national database. I have not shot enough sanctioned matches since 2017/2018, to maintain a national ranking, so I have dropped off.

I do shoot better, usually 10 points or more, at my home range than I do in competition, though. No stress, great environment, with the music of my choice playing…

10 meter pistol shooters compete against themselves, for the most part. The matches are not about the other shooter. They are about you, and where you are at that day. Which, makes the Ace’s postal a great deal of fun!

Yes, Deacon, I would agree with you regarding mostly competing with one's self, at least that is how it is for me. I want to continue to challenge myself and my skills and vary things to keep them from becoming stale or turning boring. 10M pistol is something I can do regardless of the weather, time of day, etc.. Plus I can even practice by just doing dry fire. I also agree, that any misrepresentation that someone puts out is only a lie to one's own skill and ability. But I suppose that for some, ego superscedes all. :~| For me, it is about fun and challenge and seeing how far I can stretch my abilities. Thanks to all that chime in to this topic. Shoot straight and true!

Mtnviper- exactly right!

Cancer entered my world in 2018. Prognosis then was 5 years- with surgery, etc. I am nearing the end of my life, according to the doctors….

I still support the things I love. Encouraging others to join the shooting sports means a great deal to me.

I am a life member of USA Shooting. I would encourage others to support, our sport. I would encourage others to participate in the CMP.

Yes, I still play beer league hockey! One day, they will pry my cold, dead, fingers from a hockey stick…and my wife will no longer be pissed off about the beer league games scheduled at midnight,…

Yikes! So very sad to hear that!!! I don't know what your situation is or your type of cancer or anything else; not to be Polly Anna'ish, but a dear friend of mine had been diagnosed with the worst kind of brain cancer possible, his initial prognosis was 4 to 6 months. It is now 23 years later and he is still here. Yes, he is the 1%, but one never knows. It sounds as if you live your life well and fully. I hope that you are able to continue to do so for a long time! Best wishes!
