FX Does FX Maverick really needs heavy/slug barrels?

Hello folks, I was wondering if Maverick .22 really needs STX Superior Heavy/Slug liners. I’m already shooting 30gr slugs @ 960fps on the STX superior standard and it’s very accurate, getting groups between 0.8-1 MOA @ 110y/100m.
People usually say heavy liners improve accuracy for heavier slugs because of its twist rate, but I’m not having any problem yet, never tried slugs heavier than 30gr though.
Has anyone ever tried shooting 35-40gr slugs on STX superior standard barrels? What about the accuracy and BC? I’m questioning this because I live in Brazil and this liner takes a long time to arrive (3-5months).

Exactly what madeintheuk said . I don’t have personal experience but I’ve read if you go much heavier than you are shooting now you will need the heavy liner.

Agree also. Of course, there’s a point at which physics catches up and if you’re close to that, you may not be getting the “advertised” BC. Also, if you’re shooting at higher altitude, you don’t need as much twist to stabilize because the air is less dense. Even at 4000ft, a 1:22 twist will approach the stability of a 1:18. Ultimately, if you can get away with less twist, the advantage is that less energy is wasted on spin.

Get another 3 or 4 grains and you're on the brink. It'll be a crapshoot which barrel you'll get a 1:16 or a 1:14 the newest one (If my memory hasn't messed up again)

Oh, that’s amazing, I didn’t know about that. I usually practice and zero my Maverick at 3000ft altitude, because the farm my family owns is at the hills, and maybe that’s why I got good groups even @150m/165y using 30gr slugs. I was thinking about shooting 40gr slugs @1000fps, it would become almost a 22lr rimfire, but for that I’d need the heavy liner, right?
