does this barrel crown look ok to you? ;)

just kidding lol
of course it doesnt.

this is the crown on a beeman 1357 .177 i got some days ago.

kept wondering why it shot so bad till i took a closer look at it hahaha

sending it back in the morning :)

i had thought of cutting it down and recrowning,
but im just going to return it and have them send another,
if the next one is bad on to something else lol

i just wanted something less powerful than my 60fpe impact for shooting starlings inside the barns.

i almost thought of keeping this one and getting a non choked barrel to run slugs,
the nielsen 12.5gn slugs at 960 are amazing on house sparrows lol

this is the crown...
Ever the gentleman, giving them the benefit of the doubt :)
Lapping compound and a brass screw in a drill, works a champ and takes moments.
The lands appear to be scarred from a contaminated pilot so it would need to be chopped, faced off, recrowned, and potentially rethreaded.

Even if I'm mistaken about the damaged lands, the shallow angle they used to wipe out the rifling means a very deep bevel would need to be developed with a brass screw, increasing the odds it will go out of square with the bore.

I'd definitely give it a shot, worst case: chop it off if the lapping doesn't work. The self centering nature of the screw seems to keep things nicely aligned, but I've only done this a few times.

Of course, the OP is returning it, so all a moot point anyway.

haha trig ,i should have said this jagged mess is where the crown is supposed to be haha.

i thought about taking it to someone with a lathe and have them take about 3/16" off the end and recrown it myself,
that would take it down to where the rifling seems to still be good,
but then i thought,
if the crown is hosed, there may be more problems i havent seen yet.

sending it back seems to be the safest way to keep my sanity haha

that was a new gun ? looking at the picture my first thought was a yard sale oldie . or a Barn find .

yep,supposed to be.

looks like maybe a return got shipped to me,
or someone didnt own up to their mistake at the barrel factory.

i almost want to drive it up to pyramyd and snag up something else.

PA has no showroom .

oh,i always thought they did.

im going to call a few machine shops in the area today,
if they dont want a truckload of money to chop a bit off i may get them to do it.

if i have them cut back a hair past the damaged portion i wouldn't need to have them rethread it,
as there would still be more than enough to screw the plastic supressor onto.

arrrrgggh i cant decide what to do lol

I would send it back for a new one. Call PA and have them send a return label so it does not cost you anything . Email , then they just reply and you print it .
