Secure your gun(s) in a case or something prior to driving around with it / them. I was lazy earlier today and just placed my air rifle in the back seat of the car prior to heading to a fellow AGN persons place to shoot. I had to touch the brakes to avoid a cat and . . . the gun slid forward off of the seat and went crashing down onto the floor top first ( landed on the scope ). :( Needless to say it wasn't shooting right so I didn't spend much time with it - plus had to get back home to get the lawn mowed prior to rain moving in. Fast fwd'ing - the rain came and went ( I did get the lawn mowed ) and I decided to head outdoors to see if I could get the gun squared away again. Fortunately nothing major and after making a few turret adjustments and re-tightening of scope mounts it seems to be shooting pretty good again. :)

1st five at the little orange dot were checking zero @40 yards - that looked good so I moved the target out to 100 and spent the last 5 on that one ( 10 round mag )

Ouch. Sorry to hear that man. I hope your scope is okay after it's all said and done.

I guess it goes back to my early training, but I'm paranoid about anything other than hard cases. We actually used Zero Halliburton rifle cases. I'm not even sure where to get those anymore, and that's probably overkill, but I'll take a plastic hard case with egg crate foam over a nice soft case. 

At least wrap it around with several towels around it just in case you get pulled over.

I bought out an estate yesterday. We were moving them from one SUV to another in a shopping center parking lot. Easily 20+ rifle cases, ammo boxes, scopes. It looked like a militia. I was fully expecting to get a visit before I hit the city limits. I had plans to say, "Unless you want to miss quitting time waiting for NCIC returns, you really don't want to look back there." 😋

Hi there.

I may be new to Airgun Nation but have learned a thing or seven over the years about storage and transportation. Entropy is what you should keep in mind for all such items of fragile or valuable nature. Or in simple terms, get them into their lowest state of energy that is practical. As you unfortunately know, the back seat isn’t good when rapidly breaking. I too like to transport rifles inside the car, but my choice is to slide the gun case (the best protection of all for such travels upright along the foot area of the back seat. As an extra measure, make sure the scope is facing up beforehand. 

Basically, if the rifle is already on the floor, it can’t slide any lower.

Good advice, pretty much my practice as well. In the event of the unexpected happening, the inside of a vehicle is a very unfriendly environment for anything that is unrestrained, people or air rifles. The energy generated by a 10-12 pound air rifle moving at 80-90 fps is substantial.
